<\/figure>\n\n\n\nThe William G. Sly Prize<\/h2>\n\n\n\n
This Prize honors Professor Bill “The Snowman” Sly, a chemistry faculty member for thirty-four years. This prize recognizes a junior chemistry student who exemplifies the curiosity, intellectual integrity, and enthusiasm that Bill brought to his teaching and research. Professor Van Ryswyk presented Angela Milo \u201828 with the 2026 Sly Prize.<\/p>\n\n\n\n This award is given to a student who demonstrates strong performance in coursework at the interface of chemistry and biology, deep engagement with the material, and clear evidence of critical thinking about the concepts. Professor Brucks presented Irene Jung ’27 with the American Chemical Society Division of Biological Chemistry Award. <\/p>\n\n\n\n This prize is awarded to a first-year student with high academic performance in both the lecture and laboratory components of core chemistry who exhibits a positive attitude, teamwork, critical thinking, and excellent record-keeping. Professor Brown presented Rachel Garton \u201829 with the 2026 First-Year Chemistry Prize.<\/p>\n\n\n\n This award recognizes students who demonstrate strong interest in analytical chemistry and an aptitude for a career in this field. Professor Van Ryswyk presented Carter Meyer \u201827 with the American Chemical Society Division of Analytical Chemistry Award.<\/p>\n\n\n\n This award recognizes a students outstanding contributions to environmental chemistry. Professor Kavassalis presented Matthew Simpson ’27 with the American Chemical Society Division of Environmental Chemistry Award. <\/p>\n\n\n\n This award recognizes a students outstanding contributions to the field of inorganic chemistry. Professor Johnson presented Zoe He ’27 with the American Chemical Society Division of Inorganic Chemistry Award.<\/p>\n\n\n\n This award recognizes a students outstanding contributions to the field of organic chemistry. Professor Vosburg presented Johnson Ho ’27 with the The American Chemical Society Division of Organic Chemistry Award. <\/p>\n\n\n\n This award recognizes a students outstanding contributions to the field of physical chemistry. Professor Zhuang presented Zoe He ’27 with the American Chemical Society Division of Physical Chemistry Award.<\/p>\n\n\n\n This prize was donated by Ben Johnson ’70 in memory of his father, Harald V. Johnson P70. This award annually recognizes a student who has done an outstanding job of communicating chemistry to the general public and the world outside Harvey Mudd College.
