A Playground to Explore Technology: Pomona College Expands the Innovation Lab

Asya will talk about the In The Know Lab which serves as a place to explore technology. The lab doubles as a maker space and has a variety of VR (Virtual Reality) and AR (Augmented Reality) tools, including 360 and 180 cameras. It also houses a 3D scanner, an Azure Kinect 2 sensor for motion detection and capture, as well as 3D printers and a CNC laser engraver. Computing resources include Raspberry Pi clusters with PoE (Power over Ethernet) switches and an Intel Compute Stick 2 for machine learning on Raspberry Pis and other computers that don’t have GPUs, an NVIDIA Jetson Nano computer for machine learning in embedded devices/edge computing, and  eGPUs (for portable machine learning on a laptop). The lab also has pilot training software (XPlane), electronics kits (LittleBits), robotics kits, drones (both indoor/swarming and outdoor), and Smart Home devices that can be integrated using IFTTT (If This Then That). Asya will talk about how the equipment was used in student projects since the lab’s creation in 2018.
This talk will be of interest to all students, faculty, and staff.
If you miss a presentation in the series, the Bite of Learning website has video recordings. We'll post this semester's recordings as they become available.
