Engineers, designers and educators will gather to discuss and share approaches for sketching, drafting, prototyping and producing artefacts in design related courses and activities, including industrial and entrepreneurial efforts. They will explore the role of artifact exploration, description, development and realization throughout the different phases of the design processes and explore how these can be leveraged to improve outcome and process.

History of Mudd Design Workshops

In 1997, Harvey Mudd’s Department of Engineering instituted a biennial program of Mudd Design Workshops to bring together design educators, practitioners and researchers to discuss issues in design and engineering education. The MDWs have become a highly-desirable meeting place with important intellectual content on design pedagogy for engineering faculty. In January 2012, Professor Clive L. Dym and his Emeriti Harvey Mudd colleagues M. Mack Gilkeson and J. Richard Phillips were awarded the NAE’s prestigious Bernard M. Gordon Prize, in part, for the Mudd Design Workshops.
