All new students begin in the fall semester.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Is a Transfer to Harvey Mudd Right for You?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Harvey Mudd College and its students form a unique community. If you\u2019re deciding whether to apply for a transfer to Harvey Mudd, consider whether the following applies to you:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>You have completed a significant number of courses that are compatible with courses in our Common Core Curriculum regardless of your past academic experience.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>You are willing to complete at least two years as a full time student at Harvey Mudd (this is a requirement).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>You are interested in joining a residential campus community. Living on campus is not required, but nearly all students live on campus all four years.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>You exhibit a genuine desire to take advantage of the Harvey Mudd and Claremont Colleges communities beyond the academic offerings.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Required Materials<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Common Application<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Mid-Term Report.<\/strong> Required if currently enrolled; this form includes mid-term grades and faculty comments. This form is waived if you are not taking courses in the spring term.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>College\/Transfer Report.<\/strong> To be completed by an advisor, dean of students or registrar.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Two Recommendations.<\/strong> To be completed by college instructors.<sup>+<\/sup>\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Math or science college instructor<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Humanities or social sciences college instructor<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Official transcript from current college or university.<\/strong> We also require transcripts from all previously attended colleges or universities.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>In the case you use Parchment to order your college transcript(s), be sure to choose \u201cHarvey Mudd College \u2013 Admission\u201d as your selection.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Official final high school transcript.<\/strong> We also require official transcripts from all other high schools you may have attended.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>In the case you use Parchment to order your high school transcript(s), be sure to choose \u201cHarvey Mudd College \u2013 Admission\u201d as your selection.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><sup>+<\/sup> Having this evaluation completed by a primary Instructor is preferred, but we understand in some instances this may be difficult to obtain. In such cases, an evaluation completed by a graduate\/teacher\u2019s assistant will be accepted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">$70 Application Fee or Fee Waiver<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Fee waivers are available to those who demonstrate financial need. Request a fee waiver through the Common Application. The application platform may ask your counselor to complete a fee waiver form to affirm your request. We also honor fee waivers from the ACT, College Board, and NACAC.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Required Additional Writing<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">An additional essay and short answer response are required.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Question 1<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The problems that Harvey Mudd College students hope to tackle are shaped by their experiences, values, and communities. Through our intentionally interdisciplinary curriculum and our mission to develop \u201ca clear understanding of the impact of their work,\u201d Mudders develop the skills needed to address these complex challenges and contribute meaningfully to society.<br \/><br \/>Share how an experience you\u2019ve had or community you belong to has shaped the kinds of problems you want to solve and the impact you want to make. (500 words or less)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Question 2<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>No one succeeds alone, and at Harvey Mudd College, no one expects you to. In and out of the classroom, HMC students are encouraged to embrace challenges, collaborate with one another, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hmc.edu\/student-life\/\">ask for support<\/a> when they need it.<br \/><br \/>Describe a time when asking for help made a difference in your work or wellbeing. What led you to reach out, and what did you take away from the experience? (250 words or less)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"mudd-highlighted-content wp-block-paragraph\">HMC reserves the right to evaluate an application and render a final decision even if all pieces of the application have not been received.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-mudd2021-wrapper mudd-wrapper auto-accordion\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Recommended Items<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Campus visit:<\/strong> Mudd is a unique place, so we recommend you visit campus before you apply. While we don&#8217;t offer interviews for transfer students, you&#8217;re welcome to chat with an admission representative by phone or email if you have any questions.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Supplemental recommendation:<\/strong> If you have not had the opportunity to develop meaningful relationships with the faculty at your current institution, one additional recommendation may be submitted from a recent high school teacher (within the last two years). This will not replace either of the two required college instructor evaluations.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"transfer-eligibility\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Transfer Eligibility<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Students are eligible to apply as transfer students if they will have completed at least one year of full-time academic work (in good standing) at a two- or four-year college or university by the academic term for which they apply.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Second Bachelor\u2019s Degree.<\/strong> Harvey Mudd doesn\u2019t have a second-degree program, so we do not admit students who have already earned a bachelor\u2019s degree from another institution.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>International Transfers.<\/strong> International students are eligible to apply for transfer admission only if they are not seeking financial aid.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Credit for Completed Courses<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Harvey Mudd College registrar provides an estimate of credit status to admitted transfer students a few days after they receive their official letters of admission. Official placement decisions are made by our faculty during Orientation in the fall. Keep in mind that transfer students may be expected to take some placement examinations.
