To support planning for the upcoming year, we are sharing a schedule when financial aid offers are released based on when students complete all required steps. Students are encouraged to submit materials as early as possible to ensure financial aid is available when the first fall semester bill is issued in early July.

Continuing students renew financial aid by completing the CSS Profile, FAFSA(for US Citizens and eligible noncitizens) and submitting complete copies of 2024 tax documents. Each student has a document checklist in the Financial Aid @ HMC Portal listing the specific documents required. As financial aid applications are reviewed, we may request new documentation or update the document checklist with missing items.

We encourage students to monitor their Financial Aid @ HMC Portal and HMC email regularly during the summer as we send frequent communications during the renewal process. It is important to respond to requests from our office within ten business days to prevent delayed release of financial aid.

Complete all financial aid requirements by:

Your Financial Aid Offer will be available by:

3/16/2026

6/05/2026

4/15/2026

6/30/2026

5/15/2026

7/10/2026

6/15/2026

7/30/2026

7/15/2026

8/10/2026

After 7/15/2026

4 weeks after all requirements are met

Financial Aid Offer Release Dates

Students that complete their application after 7/15/2026, will have financial aid processed as soon as possible, however should allow up to four weeks to release the financial aid offer.

Financial Aid and Student Account Billing

The Student Accounts office makes the fall billing statement available on or around July 13, with a due date of August 1. If your financial aid offer is not processed by July 13 due to late submission of financial aid requirements, your billing statement will not include financial aid. Payment is still required, and you and your family should make individual payment arrangements with the Office of Student Accounts by July 24. You can request an estimated payment amount from the Office of Student Accounts while waiting for your financial aid. Making an estimated payment will help keep your account in good standing while your financial aid is being processed. The Student Accounts team is here to help and can talk through your options. You can contact Student Accounts by email at student_accounts@hmc.edu or by phone at 909-621‑8107 for assistance.

If the full payment is not received by the payment deadline listed on your statement, a late fee of 1% of the past due amount will be applied. To avoid this fee, it’s important to stay in communication with Student Accounts.

Financial Aid Renewal Process

The process for renewing financial aid for continuing students is a three part process.

1. Submit applications and supporting materials

Continuing students submit the CSS Profile application, the FAFSA (for US citizens and eligible noncitizens) and submit 2024 tax forms listed in their document checklist.

Financial Aid staff review applications for completeness

Incomplete requirements are noted on the Financial Aid @ HMC Portal and the student receives an email about missing requirements.

The financial aid renewal process cannot begin until all requirements are completed

2. Financial Aid Review

When all requirements are met, the student’s counselor reviews the application and prepares the financial aid offer

The director of Financial Aid approves the financial aid offer

Financial Aid releases the offer to the Financial Aid @ HMC Portal and notifies the student by email that their offer is available

3. Accept Your Aid Offer & Updates

The student accepts or declines each fund on their Financial Aid @ HMC Portal

The student submits all remaining fund requirements and documents within ten (10) business days

Accepted grants, scholarships and loans are applied to the Student Account billing statement as pending aid, reducing the amount due

The student notifies the Financial Aid office of enrollment and housing changes, and any additional outside scholarship or loan funding so an updated Financial Aid Offer can be provided to the student

Frequently Asked Questions

When can I expect my financial aid offer?

Financial aid offers are released based on the date you complete all required financial aid materials. Students who submit all requirements by March 16 can expect to receive their aid offer by June 5. If you complete your renewal after the deadline, your offer will be released according to the schedule outlined above.

What is required to renew my financial aid?

To renew your financial aid, you must submit the following:
• CSS Profile
• FAFSA (for U.S. citizens and eligible non citizens)
• Signed copies of your 2024 Federal Income Tax Returns (yours and your parent(s)’), including all schedules and W-2 forms
• Families who file 1065, 1120, 1120-S, or K-1 forms for businesses or partnerships must also submit copies of those forms.
• Detailed instructions and links are available on the Continuing Student Instructions and Deadlines page.

How do I know if I’ve completed all requirements?

Your Financial Aid @ HMC Portal lists all required documents and their status (received, not signed, incomplete, not reviewed, or not received). Once all items show a status of received or not reviewed, your file is considered complete.

Why are there new requirements showing in my financial aid portal?

As your financial aid application is reviewed, we may request additional documents that were missing or needed to complete our review. Please continue to monitor your Financial Aid @ HMC Portal regularly. If new items are added or we you to clarify anything, a Financial Aid staff member will contact you by email.

How will I receive my financial aid offer?

Once your financial aid offer is ready, you will receive an email notification at your HMC email address. Offers can be viewed online through your HMC portal. Paper copies are not mailed to continuing students.

What do I do after I receive my financial aid offer?

Please review your offer carefully and accept or decline each fund through the HMC portal. Some types of aid, such as the Federal Direct Student Loan, require additional steps. Be sure you check for any new required documents and submit them within ten days, unless a later deadline is listed (such as for the Sibling Enrollment Certification Form).

I received an outside scholarship that is not listed on my offer. What should I do?

Please email the Financial Aid Office with the following information:
• Name of the scholarship
• Amount awarded
• Whether it applies to one or both semesters
• Whether the scholarship is renewable
This helps ensure your financial aid package remains accurate.

Where do I send outside scholarship checks?

Please mail outside scholarship checks to the Office of Financial Aid, 301 Platt Blvd, Claremont, CA 91711. Include the student’s name and HMC ID number on the check.

The bill does not show my financial aid? What should I do?

First, review your document checklist in the Financial Aid @ HMC Portal. If all documents have been received, your most recently submitted item determines your completion date, and your aid will be released according to the posted schedule.
If documents are still missing, please submit them as soon as possible. You should also contact Student Accounts to discuss payment options while your aid is being processed.

How much do I pay if my financial aid is not on my Student Account yet?

If financial aid has not been applied to your account, you may request an estimated payment amount from the Office of Student Accounts. Making an estimated payment helps keep your account in good standing while your financial aid is finalized.

Do I need to make a payment by the due date if I am expecting financial aid but it’s not on my bill?

Yes. Even if you are expecting financial aid, you must contact Student Accounts to confirm the amount you are expected to pay. Skipping a payment or paying less than the billed amount without approval may result in a 1% late fee. Student Accounts can help you determine the best option for your situation.

I submitted my financial aid application late. When will I find out how much financial aid I will receive?

If you complete your financial aid application after July 15, please allow up to four weeks for your application to be reviewed and for your financial aid offer to be issued. During this time, you are still responsible for making payments and may incur late fees if payment arrangements are not made.

How much can I borrow this year from the Federal Direct Student Loan program?

Maximum loan limits are based on your year in school. First year students can borrow up to $5,500; second year students can borrow up to $6,500 and third and fourth year students can borrow up to $7,500 annually. More details are shared on our Federal Direct Loan webpage.

How much can my parents borrow from a Federal Direct Parent PLUS loan?

Borrowing limits depend on whether a borrower is new or has borrowed Federal Direct Loans for their HMC student before.

Returning borrowers: Parents who have previously borrowed a Federal Direct PLUS loan for their HMC student, or students who have previously borrowed a Federal Direct Student Loan, may be eligible to borrow up to the full cost of attendance, minus any other financial aid through the PLUS loan program.

New borrowers: Parents who are borrowing a federal loan for the first time, and whose HMC student has not borrowed through the Federal Direct Student Loan program are subject to lower borrowing limits. New borrowers may borrow up to $20,000 per year, with a lifetime maximum of $65,000. Because loan eligibility is based on your financial aid offer, you may not know the maximum loan amount available to you until your financial aid offer is provided.

What can I do if I need additional financial aid?

Your financial aid that is offered is based on the financial information provided on the applications. If additional funding is needed, please contact the Office of Financial Aid to discuss what additional funding is available. If there has been a recent change in financial circumstances since submitting your financial aid renewal, please let the Office of Financial Aid know to determine if an appeal can be started. Questions about your current student account balance and payment options can be directed to Student Accounts staff.

When will financial aid be applied to the charges on my student account?

Once you accept financial aid funds in your portal, your pending aid is reflected on your student account within ten business days. Since statements update monthly, contact student_accounts@hmc.edu if you need help confirming your current amount due before the payment deadline.

Can I reduce or cancel my loans if I have a credit balance from financial aid?

You may cancel your loan(s) by declining the loan on the Financial Aid @ HMC portal or emailing Financial Aid from your HMC account that you would like to decline a part of all of your student loan funds.

I signed up for the payment plan, but financial aid covers my full balance. Can my payment plan fee be waived?

If you no longer need the payment plan because your financial aid pays for all charges, submit a new Tuition Payment Agreement form by July 20 for the fall semester and December 20 for the spring semester and change your payment plan selection. Follow up with Student Accounts to confirm your new payment agreement has been processed.

Financial Aid is renewed annually in the spring, with offers sent to students in early June.
