{"id":769,"date":"2013-05-10T09:00:22","date_gmt":"2013-05-10T16:00:22","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/newwww.hmc.edu\/about-hmc\/?p=769"},"modified":"2024-04-01T16:03:29","modified_gmt":"2024-04-01T23:03:29","slug":"hmcs-roi-ranked-no-1-by-payscale","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.hmc.edu\/about\/2013\/05\/10\/hmcs-roi-ranked-no-1-by-payscale\/","title":{"rendered":"HMC\u2019s ROI Ranked No. 1 by Payscale"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Harvey Mudd College has the highest return on investment of all U.S. colleges and universities, according to PayScale, an online salary information company.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In its <a href=\"http:\/\/www.payscale.com\/college-education-value-2013\">2013 College ROI report<\/a>, which ranked HMC No. 1 in the nation, PayScale wrote, \u201cFor the second year in a row, this engineering powerhouse takes the top position on our list of best schools for ROI. \u2026What is the secret of their success? Maybe it\u2019s their emphasis on a well-rounded education\u2014they put a heavier emphasis on liberal arts studies than other engineering schools.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>PayScale economists evaluated data from more than 1,000 institutions and compared costs to median alumni earnings over a 30-year period. They based the schools\u2019 net ROI on the difference between the median pay for those with a bachelor\u2019s degree who graduated from 1983 to 2012 and the median pay for those with a high school degree who graduated between 2012 and 1977. The costs of obtaining the college degree and lost wages from time spent in school are deducted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>HMC\u2019s 30-year ROI was calculated at $2,217,000.<b> <\/b>California Institute of Technology ranked second in the report, followed by Polytechnic Institute of New York University.
