{"id":1800,"date":"2013-05-01T09:00:35","date_gmt":"2013-05-01T16:00:35","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.hmc.edu\/about-hmc\/?p=1800"},"modified":"2014-01-16T19:18:07","modified_gmt":"2014-01-17T03:18:07","slug":"first-student-campaign-raises-scholarship-funds","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.hmc.edu\/about\/2013\/05\/01\/first-student-campaign-raises-scholarship-funds\/","title":{"rendered":"First Student Campaign Raises Scholarship Funds"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Harvey Mudd College students raised\u00a0$5,183 toward a new endowed scholarship in the College\u2019s first Student Giving Campaign.<\/p>\n<p>Held April 10-24, 2013, the campaign\u2014which replaced the yearly senior gift\u2014 attracted participation from more than 36 percent of the study body.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe program was truly focused on a community of students working together to raise funds for something of great importance\u2014an endowed Associated Students of Harvey Mudd College Scholarship,\u201d said Vice President for Advancement Dan Macaluso. \u201cIt was a terrific effort.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Participation among classes was balanced, with donations contributed from 45.3 percent of seniors (up from previous senior gift participation of 40 percent), 36.5 percent of first-year students, 33.3 percent of sophomores and 29.2 percent of juniors. In all, 274 students participated.<\/p>\n<p>The new campaign arose from discussions between students and administration about how to develop a philanthropy program that was primarily student driven and staff supported.\u00a0 The students chose to use the funds to create the first Associated Students of Harvey Mudd College (ASHMC) Endowed Scholarship.<\/p>\n<p>The Alumni Association Board of Governors provided incentive funds to help the students increase their total.
