The generous contribution will fundamentally upgrade the College’s engineering laboratories, introducing state-of-the-art workstations to support growing student enrollment, and accelerate hands-on technological innovation.

The donation consists of industry-grade oscilloscopes, advanced power supplies, and specialized design and simulation software. The equipment is slated for installation across three distinct engineering laboratories inside the academic hub of the Parsons Building. By replacing aging instrumentation and expanding the capacity of its lab spaces, the additional workstations will ensure that students train on the same platforms used by leading research and development firms worldwide.

Keysight Technologies is a premier global technology company that helps enterprises, service providers and governments accelerate innovation to connect and secure the world. Doug Baney, Keysight corporate director of education, says, “This collaboration with Harvey Mudd will expand the exceptional experiential education offered to its students, giving them hands-on experience with advanced technologies and preparing them for success in industry.”

“This partnership with Keysight Technologies comes at a perfect time for our department,” says Nancy Lape, professor and chair of the engineering department at Harvey Mudd. “Access to modern laboratory tools prepares our engineers with industry-relevant, hands-on training that is crucially important for understanding the real world.”

The project’s core objective is to significantly expand student access to updated, high-quality instrumentation within Harvey Mudd’s engineering Core classes. These foundational courses cover critical STEM fields, including introductory robotics, analog design, microcontroller design and radio frequency systems.

Through direct engagement with the new Keysight tools, Harvey Mudd students will apply theoretical concepts to real-world engineering through hands-on experimentation in:

Circuit Analysis and Design: Building and evaluating complex electronic networks.

Signal Processing: Capturing, interpreting and manipulating electrical data waveforms.

System Testing and Troubleshooting: Isolating system faults and optimizing hardware performance.

These experiences are designed to elevate students’ problem-solving skills and technical competencies—metrics that are assessed regularly as part of HMC’s ongoing department evaluation efforts and long-term academic research studies.

Beyond the Core classroom, this gift enhances Harvey Mudd’s signature Clinic Program, where student teams collaborate with external corporate partners to solve pressing engineering challenges.

The Department of Engineering at Harvey Mudd College has announced a major equipment and software gift-in-kind valued at approximately $200,000 […]

[12,212,217
post-15578","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-engineering","category-experiential-learning","category-unlisted
["GET
