Alyssa supports students and alumni as they navigate graduate school planning, internship opportunities and career development. She designs and facilitates career-related programs, workshops, employer site visits and multi-day treks, job shadowing experiences and one-on-one advising sessions to empower students in reaching their professional goals. Find out what Alyssa wishes you knew about the Office of Career Services, what hobby she enjoys and more in this Q-and-A.

What is your favorite part about your job and why?

One of the most rewarding parts of my job is watching students grow and achieve their goals over time. They arrive at college with aspirations, whether it’s a dream job or graduate school, and I have the privilege of supporting them along that journey. Seeing them secure their first research opportunity or internship, land their dream role and reach important milestones along the way is consistently a highlight of my work.

What is something people don’t understand about your job that you wish they did?

Our office is far more than a one-trick pony. We’re not just here for resume reviews or interview prep. We offer advising appointments and host events for students at every stage, from first-year through senior year, covering all aspects of their career journey. I created and host a weekly workshop series, Grub Club, that takes students step-by-step through the layers of preparation and execution for recruiting and application cycles. Additionally, this academic year we organized 139 events including workshops, panels, club collaborations, employer visits, career fairs and treks. We’re truly committed to supporting students every step of the way.

If you could swap jobs with any other HMC employee for a day, who would it be and why?

If I could swap jobs with someone for a day, it would be with Dominic Indolino. I earned my bachelor’s degree in marketing communication and still enjoy the marketing elements I get to incorporate into my current role. That said, seeing Dominic out at major campus events capturing moments of joy, connection and community always looks incredibly exciting. I’d love the chance to step back into full “marketing mode” for a day and experience that creative, on-the-ground storytelling firsthand.

What’s your favorite food/dish in the Hoch-Shanahan Dining Hall?

I love the build-your-own salad station, and it is a cherry-on-top when crinkle-cut fries are being served on the same day.

What is your favorite hobby, activity or creative outlet?

Pilates! Before pilates, I was only doing typical gym lifts, so it has been an exciting new experience challenging myself.

What is your most effective strategy for dealing with stress?

I love food, so either finding a new restaurant to try or going to a favorite spot always helps me decompress.

Are you studying or learning something new?

I started to learn how to golf a few months ago, and it has been a process to say the least. However, it’s always fun to get out to a range or course and try my best.

Alyssa Gee is program manager in the Office of Career Services, on-call dean, and Title IX deputy coordinator, and she’s […]

[28,217
post-15303","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-staff","category-unlisted
["GET
