Associate Director of Advancement Services Chelsey Morrison will celebrate four years at Harvey Mudd in November. Her everyday work includes helping to manage the College\u2019s donor and constituent database and ensuring data integrity and cleanliness, and she\u2019s managing a multi-year project to digitize all of the Office of College Advancement\u2019s files: that\u2019s 70 years of history to be manually sorted and scanned. She develops procedures and policies for the Advancement Services team, oversees project management and manages data requests across campus, delivering clean, usable data while upholding constituent privacy. I love that every day is different; there\u2019s always a new challenge to tackle, keeping my work dynamic and engaging.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
People often think their data requests are quick and simple, like \u201cJust pull a list of alumni emails,\u201d but there are countless data points to consider: accuracy, privacy, preferences and more. Every request requires careful thought to ensure the right data is used in the right way.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
I\u2019d switch jobs with someone in the makerspace or machine shop. I think it\u2019d be fun to work with my hands, create things and see students bring their ideas to life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Definitely the desserts, especially the chocolate tres leches. I\u2019ve been trying to track down that recipe for months. It\u2019s that good.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
I have many, but off-roading is my favorite hobby (I drive a 2000 Jeep Cherokee). It\u2019s a way for me to connect with nature and my community, and it takes me to places most people will never see. It\u2019s also a physical and mental challenge that many don\u2019t consider, and it gives me the perfect opportunity to go rock hounding in beautiful spots.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The best piece of advice I\u2019ve ever received is to always stay curious and to keep an open mind.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
I\u2019m currently re-listening to the \u201cStuff the British Stole\u201d podcast. I highly recommend it if you\u2019re into history and curiosities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
