{"id":13860,"date":"2025-02-18T14:02:35","date_gmt":"2025-02-18T22:02:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.hmc.edu\/about\/?p=13860"},"modified":"2025-02-26T12:35:36","modified_gmt":"2025-02-26T20:35:36","slug":"girls-who-code-founder-reshma-saujani-to-deliver-2025-commencement-address","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.hmc.edu\/about\/2025\/02\/18\/girls-who-code-founder-reshma-saujani-to-deliver-2025-commencement-address\/","title":{"rendered":"Girls Who Code Founder Reshma Saujani to Deliver 2025 Commencement Address"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Reshma Saujani, founder of Girls Who Code and founder and CEO of Moms First,will deliver the keynote address at Harvey Mudd College\u2019s 67th Commencement ceremony on Sunday, May 18.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Saujani has spent more than a decade building movements to fight for women and girls\u2019 economic empowerment, working to close the gender gap in the tech sector, and most recently fighting for the structural changes moms need and deserve, including affordable childcare and paid leave. She is a <em>New York Times<\/em> bestselling author of several books including <em>PAY UP: The Future of Women and Work (And Why It\u2019s Different Than You Think), Brave, Not Perfect,<\/em> and the <em>Girls Who Code<\/em> book series. Her influential TED talk, \u201cTeach girls bravery, not perfection,\u201d has more than 54 million views globally. In 2024, she launched <em>My So-Called Midlife,<\/em> a podcast with Lemonada Media that quickly entered Apple\u2019s Top 10 show chart, reached No. 1 in Health and Fitness, and was named one of the best new podcasts of the year by <em>TIME<\/em> magazine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Senior class presidents Rohan Subramanian \u201925 and Mikayla Mann \u201925 celebrated the announcement. \u201cAt Mudd, we have always believed that excellence goes hand in hand with reducing disparity in STEM careers,\u201d said Subramanian. \u201cReshma has championed these principles on the national level, leading the charge to found a nonprofit organization called \u2018Girls Who Code,\u2019 which aims to bring more women and nonbinary individuals into technology fields.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAs an officer and active member in the Society of Women Engineers at Mudd, I\u2019m so excited we\u2019re inviting a speaker who uplifts women in science and technology,\u201d Mann said. \u201cWe\u2019re inspired by all she\u2019s accomplished, and we are looking forward to hearing her story of breaking boundaries to close the gender gap in STEM.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Saujani is a graduate of the University of Illinois, Harvard\u2019s Kennedy School of Government and Yale Law School. Her innovative approach to activism and movement building has been recognized on lists, such as Fortune World\u2019s Greatest Leaders; Fortune 40 Under 40; WSJ Magazine Innovator of the Year; Forbes Most Powerful Women Changing the World; and Fast Company 100 Most Creative People, among others. She is the winner of the Harold W. McGraw, Jr. Prize in Education.
