Harvey Mudd College President Maria Klawe was awarded a 2015 Lifetime Achievement Award from the Canadian Association of Computer Science/Association d’informatique Canadienne (CACS/AIC), the national organization of Canadian Computer Science departments, for her many contributions to the field of computer science in Canada. She will receive the award May 21 at the annual Computer Science Chairs meeting in Calgary, Alberta.

The CACS/AIC Lifetime Achievement Award, in its inaugural year, recognizes outstanding achievement in research, teaching or service over an entire academic career. Winners must have spent at least 10 years of their career as a faculty member in a computer science department at a Canadian University. Klawe is one of six computer scientists to receive a 2015 CACS/AIC award.

Before becoming Harvey Mudd’s first female president in 2006, and prior to her position as dean of engineering and professor of computer science at Princeton University, Klawe served at the University of British Columbia as dean of science from 1998 to 2002, vice president of student and academic services from 1995 to 1998 and head of the Department of Computer Science from 1988 to 1995. Prior to UBC, Klawe spent eight years with IBM Research in California and two years at the University of Toronto. She received her PhD (1977) and BSc (1973) in mathematics from the University of Alberta.
