Welcome to Harvey Mudd College’s New Student Orientation 2008 website! We’re glad that you’ve decided to make Mudd your home for the next four years. You may now officially consider yourself a Mudder.

Nearly everything you need to submit to the College this summer will be available from this website. This whole process can be confusing and deadlines for forms back to Mudd vary. To help you organize everything, at the top and in the sidebar of our pages you will find some important links. We have a handy deadline checklist of all the forms that should be turned in, which you should start working on right away. As materials come in we will compile an accounting of everything you’ve submitted—and what’s still missing—will be recorded on a “received” checklist, which is also available above. The materials should be returned to us no later than their assigned due date although you can begin working on them early.

Above you will also find a general information section that answers the most frequently asked questions regarding Orientation and campus life. Finally there is the Campus Map and the HMC Calendar which gives you all the important dates to keep in mind, including a very important date, August 28, 2008, which is when you arrive on campus! 

From the Deans:

Welcome to the Harvey Mudd College family! We are preparing the campus and continuing to plan for the opening of the 2008-09 school year. The Dean of Students office will be working closely with all incoming students throughout their HMC careers to ensure that they benefit as much as possible from their college experience.

Even though we open at 8am on August 28, please note that the first Orientation activity begins at 12:15pm, allowing you the morning to move into your room. If you are driving to Claremont and need to arrive the evening prior to Orientation, please consult the website listing for accommodations. If you are flying, Ontario International Airport is much closer to HMC than Los Angeles International Airport (LAX). A free shuttle service is available from Ontario Airport.

We expect that you will receive your room assignment and roommate information in late July. Until then, have an enjoyable and relaxing summer. We look forward to your arrival in late August.

And now on to some fun stuff from your student Orientation directors...

"First, we want to say welcome to one of the greatest college experiences you’ll ever find. We’re about as excited to have you guys here as I’m sure you are in actually getting here!

This year’s orientation theme, painstakingly and lovingly chosen by a dedicated group of forty volunteer sponsors, is going to be the Future. So whether your future holds space ships, lots of silver body suits, or the occasional time traveling adventure, things are moving at ludicrous speed to get ready for your arrival.

There are lots of ways you can jump into the universe that is Mudd, not the least of which is to make sure that you submit all of the required forms by their respective deadlines. In addition, check out the Mudd forum, Mudderings, and look for the incoming freshman Facebook group, Harvey Mudd 2012. And of course, feel free to e-mail any of us directors! Our e-mails our listed below and we would love to help answer any questions you have about Mudd (plus it makes us feel more important). Sooner than you think you’re going to be saying, “Beam me up, Wally!”
