Petitions will be decided by the DORL according to priorities established by the HMC Cabinet on April 12, 2005 and amended by the Student Affairs Committee of the HMC Board of Trustees on May 5, 2005. All decisions by the DORL will be final.

Sontag Apartment Petitions
Opened in Fall 2004, Sontag contains two apartments specifically designed for married/partnered students and/or HMC students with a child. These apartments are furnished and have a bedroom, a study (small bedroom), a living room/dining area, a kitchen, and a bathroom.

If two students wish to live together in one of the Sontag apartments, they must submit a petition.

A petition must include a signed statement from both students describing the category to which they would qualify in the priorities below. Priority will be given to pairs of people in the order below, with “1” receiving the best priority.

If either apartment remains unassigned from petitions, it will enter draw as a double and a single.

An HMC student who is married or a registered domestic partner to a 5C student and wants to live in a Sontag Apartment must arrange for an HMC student to live at the spouse’s/partner’s campus via the 5C Housing Exchange program.

If more than two groups (couples or parent/child) qualify for this housing with equal priority, the apartments will be given to those qualified petitioners with the best room draw priority numbers.

Cohabitating couples should be 18 years or older and should have the approval of the Dean of Students or the DORL.

Adult occupants of these apartments will be required to sign a housing agreement and abide by the standard dorm opening and closing dates. All adult occupants will be expected to pay a room draw deposit and the regular room fee (by semester) charged to HMC students. One child per fee-paying adult may live in the apartment for free.
