Hi everyone! I'm Matt Brown, and I will be your Norf Dorm proctor for 2011-2012. This will be my fourth year living in Norf, and I'm very happy to have lived here each and every year! Norf has a great community full of fun, friendly, and often boisterous people. Northies enjoy lots of activities, including sports (think basketball, football, but also inner-tube waterpolo, bocce ball, ultimate frisbe), barbecues, and also just hanging out. When the weather is nice (which is most of the time in SoCal) we'll most likely be out in the courtyard or on the quad, so feel free to come hang out! If you need anything, my room is right at the top of the stairs in backhall. I love to chat, so come by any time you have questions about anything, want to hang out, or just want some free candy!

Here's a little about me. I grew up in Oxnard, CA, about an hour and a half away from Harvey Mudd. I'm an engineering major with a strong interest in mechanical systems, especially when interfaced with cool applications like robotics. I love listening to music as do many of our north residents and enjoy playing the piano when I get a chance. Whenever we have free time, I'm always happy to play any sort of board or card game you can think of. Grab a couple of friends and I can teach you how to play Settlers of Catan, Bridge, Hearts, or some of the weirdest variants of Chess that you wouldn't even dream of.

Next year is going to be awesome, and I can't wait to meet all of you! Welcome to Mudd!

Emily Ross

Hey! I'm Emily, and I'm a 2011-2012 mentor for Norf! We're a fun lot, as well as a pretty close-knit community. I absolutely love it here, and I hope you will too!

As for me, I'm from San Jose, CA, planning on being an engineering major and concentrating in Mandarin Chinese. I'm also in the Claremont Shades, a 5C a cappella group, take voice lessons at Scripps and just love singing in general (classical, jazz, musical theater, you name it!). Music is a huge part of my life, so come talk to me if you have any questions about music on the 5Cs! I also am a part of the DoS (Dean of Students) "Muchachos," who coordinate student activities and events all throughout the school year. Our events are super fun, and I recommend coming to as many of them as possible!

I live in 255, so definitely stop by if you need anything (someone to talk to, hugs, randomness, etc.)! I can't wait to hang out with you all!!

Liya Temin

Hey! My name is Liya, and I will be one of your Norf mentors for 2010-2011. I'm a junior engineering major and it's my third year living in Norf. I'm from Reston, Virginia but have fallen in love with sunny California. If it's nice outside (which is basically all of the time), you can probably find me out in the quad doing work or hanging out with friends. Another fun fact about me is that I am kind of obsessed with Spanish. I love speaking in Spanish and tend to throw it in to conversations without really thinking about it.

I can't wait to meet all of you. Frosh, get ready for a great adventure and sophomores, I hope you are ready for another fantastic year!
