Atwood Dorm

Proctors:

Nick Hill

Nick Hill

"I have stolen good grades back from sleeping professors. I burned down the dorm of West. I have spent the night in the ECF (Engineering Computing Facility) and left with both my sanity and my life. I was expelled from Scripps campus at a younger age than most people are allowed in. I tread paths by computer-light that others fear to code during the day. I have talked to God, loved women, and played symphonies that make the minstrels weep. My name is Nick Hill. You probably haven't heard of me...yet."

The above was a shameless (and more than slightly pretentious) adaptation of the introduction to a book called "The Name of the Winds" by Patrick Rothfuss. Pretty much all of that is made up, but I love the book and I wanted a clever little introduction...two birds, one stone. Anyways, let's talk about you, me, and Atwood dorm since that's why you're really reading this.

You: Although this may sound cheesy, I am really excited to meet you. Every class adds something new to Mudd and the dorm they live in so I honestly can't wait to see what you guys bring. So congratulations on getting into Mudd! Whether you're living in Atwood (where I'll be proctoring next year) or not, I'm looking forward to meeting you.

Me: The first thing most people find out about me is that I'm from Wyoming. For most people, I am the first person they have ever met from the least populous state in the Union and that's cool for me. I love the outdoors-hiking, camping, backpacking, fishing, hunting, etc.-you name it and I probably grew up doing it. I played tennis and soccer in high school, play the French Horn in the orchestra, and do a bunch of other activities that you'll have to come talk to me in order to find out. Cliffhanger!

Atwood: Naturally, I saved the best for last. Atwood is the tallest and coolest of dorms (correlation or causation? we'll never know...). We have three floors and four suites on each floor. We're very competitive in the intramural sports like inner tube water polo and soccer and in general just like to do awesome and fun things. It will be my first year living in Atwood so I'm just as excited as you.

Take away message: Don't be a stranger. I can and will meet you if you're an incoming freshman or a returning sophomore, junior or senior. If you happen to live in Atwood, that's just an added bonus. So come visit me on third floor and we'll get to know each other. The door will always be open.

Srishti Nayak

Srishti Nayak

Hi all! My name is Srishti Nayak (I know that is a mouth full, so "Sri" will work just fine) and I am your first floor Atwood proctor.  Atwood is a super sweet place to live.  We have a game room with HDTV to satisfy all of your pop culture and movie cravings.  Plus, we got three floors, gigantic suites, balconies for every room, and showers big enough to throw a dance party in. But don't worry; we will be having most of our dance parties (of which there will be plenty) in the suite.

Here is a little about me:  I am not your typical Mudder but I love Mudd all the same.  Firstly, I am an off campus neuroscience major.  My research interests include Alzheimer's disease and general memory function.  When I am not in lab, I am usually watching TV shows and fantasizing about a movie role as I have had a love affair with the stage since before I can remember.  I am also OBSESSED with trashy pop music (hence the dance parties) but I also enjoy good music. On numerous occasions, I have been told that I was one of those babies that could "break it down" before they could walk.  So if you ever have to make fun of me while I sing along to "TikTok", or have a dance party (also encouraged as it is time tested way to relieve stress), or just talk, please feel free to knock on my door any time.

Mentors:

Crystal Bong

Cyrstal Bong

Hey everybody! My name is Crystal and I'm one of your five Atwood mentors for next year! This will be my second official year living in Atwood (I hung out a lot my first year in Atwood, but was actually a Westie), so I would say that I have a pretty good handle on the dorm.  In case you haven't heard enough about Atwood, we are the only three story dorm on campus with a great suite-style layout that includes the biggest showers on campus.  Each suite has a very different personality, so it's pretty hard to be bored in Atwood.
A little bit about me.  I am a rising junior engineering major from Arcadia, CA, which is about half an hour away from campus. I haven't decided which field of engineering I want to go into (thank goodness Mudd doesn't make us decide) but am interested in architecture and the auto industry, so potentially something that would help me work in those.  However, I do have a strong passion for biology and medicine, so there's the potential that I'll turn into a bio-medical engineer.  I work with the DoS Muchachos on campus, which is a group of students who love to put on silly events for the whole campus every week.  Definitely a great job, and I would encourage all of you to show up to their events!  In my spare time, I like to run, play basketball, watch movies (good and bad), catch some of the concerts (classical and non-classical) that the other campuses put on, and get off campus in general.
I can't wait to meet you guys! I'll be in the east side column double on second floor, so if you ever want to just hang out or talk to someone, feel free to stop by!

Hannah Groshong

Hannah Groshong

Hey Everyone! I'm Hannah and I will be a mentor on the first floor of Atwood! I lived in an Atwood triple my freshman year and I loved the large suites, big showers, and social life of Proctor Suite. Atwood is a great, friendly place to live and the differing personalities of the suites make for a fun and diverse group of people that get along well.

A little bit about me: I'm an engineering major here at Mudd, I love to talk, and I still vividly remember the horrors of core physics. I love listening to music and I am constantly singing/whistling/humming some tune stuck in my head. Also, I am always eating, just ask my roommate.

I know firsthand how hard things can get at Mudd and I am here to help you out along the way. I will always be available to lend an ear and you are welcome to stop by anytime for a cup of tea and a chat. If you are ever in need of a stress reliever, I am always up for an impromptu dance party at all (or most) hours of the night!

Garrett Menghini

Garrett Menghini

Hello Atwoodians! My name is Garrett Menghini and I will be your third floor mentor of Atwood this year! Having lived in Atwood for two years, I can tell you that you are in for an exciting year! The suite life it what makes Atwood unique, and with many different suites bringing in many different personalities for the upcoming year, Atwood is going to rock. Plain and simple.

That's a bit about Atwood, now I'll tell you a bit about myself. I am a junior engineering major, focusing on electrical engineering, with a humanities concentration in economics. I love everything sports and/or outdoors, and in my free time I love to play pick up basketball, throw a football around, go mountain biking or hiking, or do pretty much anything else that gets me outdoors on a gorgeous southern California day! Originally from Reno, Nevada, I grew up riding horses and participating in rodeos, and frequently went hunting, fishing, and camping. And of course, I love being introduced to new things, so feel free to do just that!

If you have questions about anything, or if you just want to talk, you can find me in Atwood 314. If I'm around, my door is open! I look forward to getting to know you all during this upcoming year! Welcome to Mudd!

Ashley Kretsch

Ashley Kretsch

Hi guys! My name is Ashley Kretsch and I am one of the mentors of Atwood second floor! Sandwiched between first and third floor it's the only floor of Atwood without a proctor and has the luxury of the balconies without the inconvenience of too many stairs. Atwood itself it pretty awesome, with its large suites and even huger showers.

Fun stuff about me, I spent high school as an expat in the Netherlands. I loved living abroad and being in Europe, it's always super hard to leave the great food and awesome people! I am going to be a junior majoring in chemistry and maybe maths. Currently I am doing research towards HIV/AIDS gene therapy, which has been my favorite academic experience of Mudd. I swim distance for the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps swim and dive team, which has been my favorite challenge of college (I still love it! If any of you are thinking about doing CMS sports and have questions let me know). I am super big into international relations, so if you are one of those mudders that love talking about what's going on out in the world, that's something I love to talk about!

My room is totally is open to you no matter what floor you live on or what dorm you are in, to hang out, bake things with me (with a toaster oven?), and have awesome conversation about anything (and any language if you teach me); whether fun or serious J. I also will be there as much as I can to answer any questions you may have (though if you purposely make them too hard for me to answer, I might have to look at you weirdly). Super EXCITED for next year!

Katie Shepherd

Katie Shepherd

Hi there fellow Mudd-enthusiasts! I'm Katie Shepherd, a sophomore engineering major, and I'll be one of your mentors of Atwood next year! Woo! If you were wondering (and if you weren't, well, I'll tell you anyway), I am from the city of Rancho Cucamonga, CA, a solid 15 minute drive from Harvey Mudd. I know, I couldn't have picked a college any closer to home, but that just goes to show you how much I loved Mudd from the start. I am in love with music and everything about it - playing it, singing it, listening to it, dancing (badly) to it, so if you'd like to have some fun doing any of those things with me you would make my day. I'm also quite a champ at eating ice cream, discussing any Harry Potter topic you could imagine, and throwing the ol' Frisbee around (maybe not all at once though...)! In my year at Mudd I've gotten involved in the orchestra, choir, tour guiding, and the DOS Muchachos group (these are the guys that come up with all the fun activities for students to do on campus), among other randomness. I'm really excited to start the new year and make it awesome for Atwood and for YOU!  And believe it or not I'm a pretty friendly person, so please feel free to come by room anytime, otherwise I'll see you around!!
