Proctor Application 2013-2014

Fall 2012, Gone Spring 2013

The Harvey Mudd Dean of Students Office is now accepting applications for 2013 - 2014 Proctors from students who will be off-campus during Spring 2013. Interested students who will be on campus this spring should wait until the Spring 2013 proctor selection process.

The Fall 2012 proctor selection process has four parts:

1. The written application

The written application must be submitted electronically to Guy Gerbick by noon on Monday, December 3, 2012. For the written application, please write a personal statement addressing your interest, qualifications, and reasons for applying for the proctor position. This statement should be no longer than two pages, double-spaced. If you must go longer, that's okay.

Then, address each of the following questions separately. Your answers need not be long.

  1. What is the most important responsibility of a proctor at Mudd?
  2. For you, what would be the most difficult aspect of being a proctor?
  3. For you, what aspect of the proctor position would be easy for you?
  4. Describe an effective strategy employed by a previous proctor or proctors to make campus life better.
  5. How would you, as a proctor, make life better for students on campus. (This is obviously quite open-ended. Be creative, if you'd like.)
  6. Where have you lived during your time at Mudd?
  7. Where do you want to be a proctor next year?

2. Proctor Interview

Both proctor and mentor candidates should reserve Thursday, December 6 from 11:30 am to 1:00 pm for a short interview with the current proctor staff in the Mitchell Room of Hoch-Shanahan. The meeting will allow current proctors to interact with you before you go abroad. This replaces the more elaborate group interviews with candidates in the spring.

3. Dean Interview

Each applicant will meet individually with Guy Gerbick and possibly other DOS deans. This interview may be scheduled any time before the end of the semester. For an appointment, contact Guy Gerbick at ggerbick@hmc.edu or 909.621.8301.

4. Student/faculty input

Student and faculty input for both fall and spring applicants will be collected in Spring 2013.

That's it. Thanks for your interest in being a proctor and good luck on your adventures away from Mudd.
