HMC
Running for Office

ASHMC is an organization made up of student volunteers who ran for office. If you are considering running, you can come to an ASHMC Meeting (Sundays at 4 p.m., Riggs Room) to see how it all works. Feel free to contact current or previous ASHMC members with questions. Each position has different responsibilities, and the time commitment varies.

To run for a position on ASHMC (including DB and JB Chairs and Food Chair), you must get the Election Petition signed by at least 10% of your constituency. Remember that each person may only sign one petition for each position.

Elections

There are 4 scheduled elections during the school year. This is a rough outline:

1. For Freshman Class President: Two weeks before the beginning of fall break

2. For Freshman Class Honor Board Representatives: Two weeks before the beginning of winter break

3. ASHMC Elections: One week before the beginning of spring break

4. Budget Requests over $1500: Two days following the end of HMC Club Budgeting

Note that during any of these elections, budget requests from clubs or individuals that are over $1500 (which require student approval) can also appear on the ballots. If you will need to request over $1500 at some point, please keep these election dates in mind.

There are several weeks of "shadowing," where the newly elected can observe the former officers and ask questions before taking up their new responsibilities. The crossover period between councils takes place before Presentation Days of spring semester (a.k.a. Dead Week).
