Minutes for ASHMC Meeting

Status Updates

President – We are hearing 3 LTF requests today. Our long term fund is 14,200 right now.

 

Treasurer – I won’t be here next week, I will be on a back-packing trip, so tell me about requests by Thursday night. Treasury now has a page on Haak’s site. Some of the numbers on the funds are incorrect. Dorm money I will have by tonight. Letter-head contest is open. Amazon affiliates program, we could have some amount of money go to ASHMC for purchase on amazon.

 

JB Chair – Good

 

DAC – Doing well, finishing new card swipe policy, should be in place in a week or two. We need to vote on a form for allowing off-campus people swipe.

 

Sontag – Fine.

 

Athletics – Doing well, currently talking with DC and Anthony (personal trainer) about a 5k color run around 5Cs and looking into 3v3 basketball tournament. Trying to get mirrors in the weight room.

 

Sophomores – good

 

North – good

 

Social – Giving 2,250 to T-Swift concert. We need receipts before we can write a check. We talked to other 5C social chairs, unofficially promised 500 from each school. We should hear from everyone by tonight. There are a bunch of off-campus events coming up.

 

Seniors – Great.

 

Linde – Good.

 

West – Good.

 

Atwood – We cut some bikes, one person forgot to take of tape.

 

East – Good.

 

CAP – We had lots of people sign up for fall break trips. Money will be due by this Saturday and we will buy tickets etc. We decided that T-Swift doesn’t count as an off-campus event.

 

South – Good

Juniors  -Good, next week I won’t be here due to clinic site visit. Miranda will represent junior class.

 

VP – It’s been a good week, we had freshman class election and it will close at 6pm today. We waited because of Grace Hopper.

Roller Hockey Club LTF Request

                Last year in the spring we requested money to build a roller hockey ring on campus. We have to drive 25min currently and figure out carpools. We are asking for money from the LTF. We’ve been around for 5-7 years. We participate in a collegiate league, we have tournaments in San Jose and Huntington Beach. We want to show first years (14 interested) that we are dedicated. It would be nice if we had an on-campus rink. We got permission from CMC to use their old tennis courts, but we want boards to play actual games rather than just skate around. I know there is a popular floor-hockey class, having a bigger roller-hockey club might help foster a bigger hockey culture. We are requesting 5000 for the rink.

 

You said you want to possibly use the new rink for PE classes, would you charge the school for use of the rink?

                We talked to schools about funding but they aren’t too interested in funding it for one class so we are making it more student-driven.

 

You asked for money in the spring, did you ask for this full budget?

                We asked for this plus regular club budget, we didn’t get everything we asked for.

 

You say you raised 940 dollars, what will that money be going towards?
                Probably entry fees .

 

To what extent can you weather-proof the rink?

                So far we have put paint down and seen how it holds up against the weather. It has done pretty well. We would use treated plywood so rotting wouldn’t be an issue.

 

How long would it take to build?

                A month and a half is my estimate? We could also come back early from winter break and we could potentially work on it over the summer.

 

How many of 14 frosh who signed up are Mudd students?

                5 of them.

 

Have you considered selling something to raise money?

                We already charge club fees to cover most of tournaments and games. Spring 2011 we had the roller-prom, we charged a fee but we barely broke even after the fees charged from the rink.

 

I checked your past budgeting, you got 1650 from Mudd, what did that money go towards?

                It’s 2300 to participate in D2, so it went mostly to that. With a lower budget we are playing D3. Some of the budget may have gone to the paint.

 

Items from the LTF need to last longer than 5 years, would we have to keep providing upkeep fees?

                We could pay for upkeep with our own dues.

 

Is it possible to borrow a power washer from F&M?

                Maybe.

 

Will the boards break, have issues with weather?

                The boards are weather treated. The boards will last for quite a long time, and we are under Pat Little’s direction with regards to building so it will be built well.

 

If we decide to give you a reduced budget, can you do something with the money now? Or do you need a full fund?

                Without the money for the boards it will be hard, but if you give us money we will do something with it.

Atwood – They are asking for a disproportionate amount from our budget compared to other schools.

 

Social – It’s also 1/3 of our LTF. The fact that they aren’t trying to do their own fundraising is frustrating.

 

Case – I would like to see a better plan for how they would take care of it. Even though they expect it to last, I think they will be back in a year.

 

VP – If we gave them the money, I would want Prof Little to manage their project.

 

Social – They’re both seniors, will the project fall through if it continues past when they graduate?

 

Athletics – I like the idea but I don’t like that we are footing the entire bill.

 

VP – Can we give them a condition of us paying for 2000 if the other schools pay a combined 3000?

 

Social – I don’t think there is enough participation from Mudders for us to give them this money.

 

VP – They don’t even have a concrete pledge that they can have this land for 5+ years.

 

JB Chair – We do share CMC’s facilities.

Case LTF Budget Request

                We want 3137.42.

 

If we buy this lock, can we boss F&M around with regards to this lock? Can we take it back at any time?

 

Sontag – Sontag is asking for the same lock.

 

East – I’m sort of appalled that F&M won’t pay for this. ASHMC would then own these locks on campus, is there any way to make them pay for some or all of this.

 

South – Currently these doors are permanently locked on the outside? South lounge is the same way.

 

Case – There are ways you can get into the doors without a key.

 

DAC – It’s not necessary that these doors have cardswipe. This is optional, it’s something that the students want.

 

Juniors – Is there someone higher up than F&M who we can talk to?

 

Dean Maggie – They will probably be happy to talk to you.
