Mudders Against Drunk Driving (MADD) -- Daniel Rozenfeld

Daniel – Goal to decrease drunk driving at Mudd
Mudders drive to get food late at night after 2am
    Provide food elsewhere
Matt- MADD is another used acronym
Daniel – name can be changed
Margaret – Anyone who’s drunk could buy snacks on their own in advance
Daniel – they could, but they don’t
We’re reacting to what is, not what should be
Will – will it be charged?
Daniel – it would be free
Brandon – Can sober students who don’t have cars use the service?
Daniel – that doesn’t help our cause
Matt- who’s driving drunk around here?
Daniel – I have seen people
Matt- wouldn’t free rides be more helpful?
Daniel – we could do that, but then we would need sober drivers at late hours
Providing food is an easier way to help the problem
Hayden – doesn’t stopping sober people from using the service go against the membership creed?
Daniel – we’re not discriminating against anything that’s not decision based
Ben – how are people going to get the food?
Daniel – exact location undetermined
In suite of a member, with phone number available
Wylie- how is this different from vending machines?
Daniel – they’re often not working and the food isn’t good
    Variety is good
Hufsa- if you know there are people who are drunk driving, why aren’t you reporting it?
Daniel – I would rather mitigate the situation than get them in trouble
This is the most comfortable way to deal with it for me
Hufsa – You can ask someone else to intervene
If this is a problem, you’re not treating a problem
Stephen – Is there a way to sell the food instead?
Daniel – that’s a possibility, but I want to give them incentive to come to us
Daniel leaves
Matt – I like the charter, but if they had a budget, I would be against it
I wish they would have a list of drivers
Roxie – This isn’t a good way to solve the problem of drunk driving
Rachid – there are other things they should do
Josh – I think the concept is good, but there is already uplate-l
Rachid – Some people are self-conscious and wouldn’t want to email a list
Stephen – maybe it could be a charged service
Roxie- Motion to not approve
Will – seconded
(9,4,4)
Motion passed
Matt- make sure they know they can come back with a different charter
Rachid – we should tell them what we’re looking for

Adult Entertainment Appreciation Club (AEAC) -- Alex Ross

Alex – promote a culture of discussion for adult entertainment
Matt- Do you know about the history of the sex club?
Alex – no
Hufsa- what is a pay-site?
Alex – a site that requires paid membership
Wylie – will you show it to people under 18?
Alex- for legality, you will have to be 18
Margaret- why need a club instead of a network
Alex- the network is not necessarily legal
Ryan – are you allowed to have shared paid memberships?
Alex – one person would keep the password
Dean Guy- the viewing would have to be completely private
Alexa – would we be funding just a group of friends?
    Will there be new people?
Alex- anyone would be welcome to come
Roxie – what are you going to discuss?
Alex- I can’t plan that..
    We would discuss the films
Daniel – the quality of the dialogue and the story
Ryan – Pornography is usually targeted towards straight men
Alex- we would have a variety, not to discriminate
Alex leaves
Jack – Do they need us to pay for it?
    There are free sites
Roxie – funding aside, this isn’t a real charter
Wylie – will this go on our website?
Erin – this isn’t something ASHMC should be funding or approving
There are plenty of students who would be offended
Ryan – but there are people who would be offended by Wine Club
Hufsa – If this goes through, what effect will it have on ASHMC’s image?
Matt- we aren’t here to censor
Stephen- can we approve the charter and then not give them money?
Hufsa- yes
Roxie – I don’t like this in concept
Alexa – can we put this up to the student body?
Hufsa- I think it’s possible
Matt- Motion to approve charter
Rachid – seconded
(7,4,6)
Motion does not pass
Ryan – if we had an idea about interest, would that help?
Jack – we already have a semi-public porn event on campus
Dean Guy – can we table it?
Josh – motion to table
Seconded
(9,2,4)
Motion passes

CheeseSHMC -- Adam Brown & co.

Adam – We’ve been discussing this with our list
~25% of the school is interested
    Article 7, section 1 quoted
    Branch out into educational events
    Classes at the cheese cave
    Article 7, section 2 quoted
Scott- Could fridges be taken from the long term fund?
Adam – the budget is not up right now
Cheese clubs are long standing on other campuses
Josh – where would cheese fridges be stores?
Adam – in our own rooms, and we would be under honor code to not waste it
Adam and co. leaves
Motion to approve

Discussion

Hufsa- we should have an idea about prioritizing clubs
Ryan – how are we going to do it?
Hufsa- all clubs are presenting and then we’ll discuss
Lindsay – how many new clubs are there?
Hufsa- 4 or 5 have emailed me so far
Wylie- are we going to see budget proposals before the meeting
Hufsa- yes
Jack- funding proportional to participation
Some interests are more expensive than others
Ryan – dollars/jollies ratio
Josh – we should encourage openness and community
Matt- some people have unique and expensive passions, and we shouldn’t punish them
Hufsa- we have to keep in mind how dedicated the members (and leaders) are
Ryan – have we ever run into a problem running out of money at budgeting meetings?
Roxie –we sometimes get request in the middle of the year that we have to keep in mind
Margaret- we cut small bits out of everyone’s budget
Alexa – Can we talk about dorm funding?
Hufsa- I’ve heard there’s a cardswipe system to be implemented at parties
That is a violation of student privacy
    Why is this happening?
    Liability?
Dean Guy – the system was student initiated
Used to find out how many students from other campuses come to our parties
Intended to keep out banned students
Jack – If we just kept track of schools, we could use that to request budget for parties from other Cs
Lindsay – I like the idea of being able to keep track of how many other C students are present
I don’t understand how it’s any less private than showing IDs at the door
Roxie – information could potentially be used
Margaret- are any of the other schools going to implement a similar system
Dean Guy – I don’t know
Eric – There are nonelectronic methods that can be used
Josh – can we have ASHMC maintain the lists and the deans can request information?
Dean Guy – that’s fine by me
Lindsay – If something goes wrong (i.e. soandso broke some window), there is confirmation of information
Rachid – in cases of alcohol poisoning, this is the similar idea
Wylie- why not also scan at exit?
Matt- it seems excessive
Will – how long is the ban list?
No known information
Lindsay – presented numbers of social’s budget
Matt- if your budget was reduced, how much could we reduce it by?
Linsday – you could take out $4500 for 1C parties, if those would be thrown out of dorm funds
Hufsa- are there any parties that aren’t going to happen this year?
Lindsay – Mudd goes mad and jungle
Just because a few parties aren’t happening doesn’t mean we can’t have that budget
You can’t cut on, like, security or DJs
Matt- can we discuss it without social here?
Social leaves
Margaret- nothing passed quorum last semester, except food chair
Matt- dorms should get more money
Josh –we can’t pay for this by cutting 1C parties
Matt- social can cut from elsewhere
Brigid – Social got money based on last year’s spending, but there’s at least one less 5C this year
Linde- I really feel like this would penalize dorms who spend a lot and put the effort to throw big parties
Josh – you can be more efficient with money, rather than spend more
We should be clearer about not giving out more money whenever it’s asked for
Matt – we could take money from both social and cap
Ryan – what do you have planned with this money?
Matt- dorm dinners, bowling, new speakers
Alexa – South wants a toaster
Josh – Sontag wants cardswipe on front doors of lounge
    Piano for the lounge
Hufsa- 2004 social budget was $32,000
We gave social $4,000 extra at the end because we had extra
We need to make cuts because we don’t have as much this year
Jack – Dorms tend to have a good idea of what their dorm wants
Hufsa- cuts need to happen and dorm argument is strong, but not all cuts should go to dorms
Clubs are going to get slighted with current numbers
Margaret- how much should ASHMC have?
Hufsa- that’s a hard question
Jack – social doesn’t tell anyone they should find a less expensive DJ…
Linde – we’ve definitely cut bands
DJs are usually cut as low as they can
Margaret- the social budget has increased more than the ASHMC budget in the last 6 years
Garrett- $16000 from Social, $1000 more to each dorm, then rest to ASHMC
Margaret- that would be really tough on ASHMC
Roxie- yearbook didn’t present, they should be here for discussion of their funding
Josh - $8000 from social $5000 from CAP, $5000 from yearbook
CAP- part of cap budget has already been spent, so you can’t cut lower than what’s been spent
Margaret- all suggestions for dorms have been standard, but should it be by person?
Alexa – we could have a base increase, then more per student
Jack- $8000 from social
Linde- that punishes parties at the end of the year
Jack – should be approve social’s budget per semester?
Eric – we have to cut money from somewhere, and no one is going to like losing money
Noah – We don’t know how social works, so we can’t make the decision for them
Jack – they’re spending a lot of money badly
Ben – Cap money goes to same people over and over
Hufsa- social is the same
Linde- but it’s a large group
Alexa – South has a lot of operating costs (couch covers, sun shades, hammocks, etc.)
Noah – Do we prioritize dorm events or Mudd events more?
Alexa – 1C parties don’t promote Mudd culture, particularly in South
Josh- there are other mudd events (like DOS events), that aren’t parties
Noah – social funds some of those
Hufsa – everyone is focusing on dorms, but we have to think about the ASHMC funds
Eric – it’s not that we’re trying to steal from social, we just don’t have the money to give them
Hufsa – cut $8000 from social, $600 per dorm, then ASHMC’s budget goes to $10,000
Ben – what was the average budget given to a club last year?
Hufsa- but some clubs get extra money for events, so that doesn’t account for all their budget
Margaret- we do have the option of not changing the budgets
Jack – can we make a motion?
Hufsa – more discussion.  As for the ASHMC budget, we should have $15000 for the year
Brigid- we can at least cut what was spent on MGM and Jungle from social
Margaret- are we comfortable cutting $4000 from social?
Hufsa – extra $5/resident for dorms, coming from social and yearbook
Dean Guy – we may have already signed a yearbook agreement, meaning costs are set
    They would fundraise
Brigid –how about $4000 from social to dorms and $5000 from yearbook to ASHMC
have we discussed asking the trustees for more money?
Roxie- we should be able to effectively manage our funds on our own
Margaret- I like those numbers, and we can tell yearbook to come back if they absolutely need to
Motion to cut $4000 from social to dorms and $5000 from yearbook to ASHMC
