ASHMC Meeting 11/15/09

Status Updates:

VPs- Good. At table in Hoch, talked about reviving FNMG. Change to MovieSHMC. Bring 10-20 students to Claremont 5 to watch movies every week.

Julian- FNMF died because students watch movies in dorm though.

Nick- Well, it wasn’t not big enough draw to go to Galileo.

Hufsa- Set up movies on inflatable screen?

Margaret- Would the tickets b more subsidized than tickets now?

Nick- Yes. A couple more dollars.

Amy- How popular is the Friday night dinner thing? Kind of similar to get off campus.

Maureen- Doesn’t happen that often because not that many people go.

Donald- Would Dean Maggie run it herself or is she looking for student?

Maureen- Looking for one person to pick movie and arrange everything.

Donald- Think that would be a bad idea because you see movies with your friends. Students aren’t motivated to leave their room to go see it. It won’t go that well.

Julian- Agree. Going to theater is a draw, but we have opportunities in dorm.

Emma- Use movies-l to publicize?

Julian- West chat works fine.

Donald- Do you really want random people showing up to your lounge to watch movies with you?

 

Social- Good

Seniors- Good

Athletics- Good, new pickupbball-l

North- LTG is on Saturday

Frosh- Good

Atwood- Good

Juniors- Good

CAP- Good

Sophomores- Good

Case- Good. Jungle was fine. Ordered shot glasses.

East- Good. Funball on Friday

South- Planning to have East South dorm BBQ.

Sontag- Good but 2 seats off bikes stolen

West- Good

Treasurer- Fine. $25,000 left

President- Good. Met with other presidents from 4C’s. Join forces. Talked about how we’re dissatisfied with student health services. Meet with new dean of student health

Linde- Around the World last night. Went all right. Noise complaints, police came.

 

Eric Nieters- Fun Activities Club Budget Proposal

-About 140 people on email list, 15 alums on it.

-Presented budget request.

 

Maureen- What’s the purpose of club?

Eric- when you have time, fun things to get people together.

Hufsa- How often would you meet/have events?

Eric- Try to do it once a month.

Donald- Didn’t receive funding last year?

Eric- I do not think so.

David- I think we received money on an activity basis.

Eric- But maybe I’m about the budget paper and it was from last year, not two years ago.

Hufsa- Use other board games on campus? Sontag?

Eric- Yeah. We’ve looked.

Maureen- Where do you store your stuff?

Eric- In my room as of now.

David- Could keep it at the LAC.

Bryan- Could keep them in the club gym storage room.

Alyssa- The LAC has a lot of stuff to use (dodge balls, squirt guns, etc).

Julian- How many people go to the events?

David- About 30 people. Club has a lot of appeal to different people.

Eric- There are different groups of people too. Went to two events, half of the same people at both

Mobi Khan I-Banquet Budget Proposal

- The event is once a year with food, dancing, fashion shows, etc.

- Tickets run out pretty fast.

- DOS subsidizing tickets for Mudd students.

- Most of the expenses are for food

- Last year received $500, asking for less this year

- At Frary

 

Erin- How many Mudders went last year?

Emma- About 70

Mobi- I sold about 20. Would have sold more but ran out of tickets.

Hufsa- Why are you making less money in ticket sales than last year?

Mobi- I’m not sure. Maybe money limited or subsidies more. Also doing meal cards and Claremont cash.

Amy- Why less tickets sold this year?

Mobi- Couldn’t get more after initially getting them. Sold out. There might be students who went off campus to get them.

Nick- How much money are you requesting?

Mobi- $460. Less last year

Caro- How much money did club receive from ASHMC?

Strieter- $250

 

 

 

GardenSHMC Rep.- Budget Proposal

- New club

- Want to put in new plants east of Platt.

- Need soil, pots, trees

Fun Activities Club Budget

Erin- Think the budget is too much because the LAC already has a lot of the stuff they want

Julian- But they are catering to a lot of students. Good to let them have the opportunity

Donald- If they put their stuff in the LAC, it will get sucked into the LAC. We should let them know.

Margaret- How is this different than the Muchachos?

Donald- The off-campus outings.

Emma- Then isn’t it similar to CAP?

Caro- More spontaneous outings. Last year it ended up being Taylor Neiman and his friends. But Eric and David may do a better job at being less exclusive.

Julian- Also, there would be more participating than just with Muchachos.

Margaret- Than we should get more participation with the Muchachos.

Caro- There are three Muchachos in ASHMC so we could talk about that.

Donald- They shouldn’t make redundant purchases but if there is more of a good thing, then it’s ok.

Kiley- Do they give itemized list of receipts?

Striter- Yes

Donald- Give them less. But most of what they should do is subsidize trips.

Nick- We’re just worried about redundancy.

Caro- We should make sure it’s limited to current Mudders.

Margaret- Was the club active last year?

Maureen- Yes.

Strieter- Can get audit.

Maureen- Didn’t come to spring budgeting. So wouldn’t be surprised if no audit last year.

Donald- Shouldn’t we do something about that? Isn’t that bad to have unaccounted for money?

Hufsa- Don’t shut down clubs but threaten them instead

Maureen- Try to be more demanding with that

Denis- We should give them $150 and see how they do.

Maureen- Budget too big because just approved charter. Don’t have much of a plan. Also don’t know how it works.

Julian- That garden would benefit whole school.

Nick- If can spend all $400, we will have a really great garden.
