Matthew Manotoc - Filipino Club Disaster Relief budget request
-Earthquake hit Indonesia. Typhoons hit Philippines. Filipino-American history month.
-“Fil I Am” event- hip hop performances. Thursday night, 7:30 pm
-American best dance crew season 3 winners performing for $5,000.
-Some other entertainment
-Total budget- approximately a little over $6000
-Requesting $1000 from each C
Donald- Charging for tickets?
-No event is free. Suggested minimum donation of $5. 300-400 people showed up last year. Hopefully more people come out this year
Donald- How much did you raise last year?
-None last year. It was just a show case last year. Show off talent.
Caro- How are you planning to advertise?
-Banners, flyers, postcards, facebook event. Local media- newspaper. Ads at Claremont High School and UCLA.
Caro- You should use table tents.
Emma- Club breakdown?
-Mostly Pitzer students. Trying to revive specific club for this cause.
Donald- Did we give money last year?
-Not sure. Mostly Pitzer.
Donald- How many attend from each of the schools?
-100-200 from Pitzer. Hopefully 50 from each other school. Maybe 30 from Mudd- hopefully more.
Amy- How would the money be used?
-Goes to International Red Cross. Lack resources to rebuild villages. Matthew’s sister works with Red Cross. Want money to get where needed- will research it.
Donald- You are losing money if only get $1500—talk to local businesses.
-We talked to Philippine Chevron. Also want to just raise awareness. Expose people to culture.
Donald- Have you thought about going to administration to match what you get?
Maggie- This is worth exploring. Isn’t most efficient way to raise money. Almost seems counterproductive.
-This is our only way to raise money because we can’t just ask for money from each school to donate directly. Event successful last year. With bigger name and better advertising, more people.
Margaret- how much did it cost last year?
-Same cost.
Emma- where did you get the money then?
-Mostly Pitzer. Didn’t go to Mudd.
Emma- Have other senates given money?
-CMC gave $500, Pitzer individual groups gave money- waiting for finalized. Will email tomorrow with the exact numbers.
Nick Hasegawa - 5C Music Festival budget request
Nick- Budgets: Pomona $5500, Scripps $8000, Pitzer $2000
-Held on CMC campus. CMC should contribute the most- will pick up the tab.
-Mudd students were at event, especially during Mudd band performances.
Caro- Social hasn’t met because of fall break. $1500-2000 range from Social.
-Trying to be fair about how event is paid for.
Discussion and Action
Caro- Remember Maureen’s view of social and ASHMC. Social events need to go to social or ASHMC, not both. Didn’t give any money last year.
Nick- Filipino as social event is fuzzy.
Donald- They’re selling it wrong. Not a fundraising event. Can’t make enough money back.
Denis- Can’t give $6000 directly to event.
Donald- There are other ways to raise money.
Hufsa- It’s not too late.
Marc- Looking at it associal event or fundraising event?
Nick- Could give $150 to Red Cross instead. Look at it as social event with added component.
Donald- it needs to go through Social.
Nick- Email them to come to social at 9:15.
Emma- Could give $5 for every Mudder
Julian- How would they know how many Mudders showed up?
Hufsa- how are they advertising it? Because if they emphasize that it’s a fundraiser, get more people.
Audrey- Have seen ads like that.
Amy- Chance/most likely people won’t donate.
Nick- Event goes through Social. We can decide if we want to make donation directly to disaster relief. Put on agenda for next week.
5C Music Festival budget request
-Needs to be entirely Social.
Russell- If Social doesn’t have enough money, it doesn’t need to come back to us. Then it’s just that social doesn’t have enough money.
