Updates
Social: Trick or Drink went well. Next big party is Wild Wild West, November 17. We should have good speakers by then. Not sure what speaker cost is. Going to pay for part of it from the social budget.
Linde: Dorm meeting last Thursday.
Atwood: Going to have trick or treating on Wednesday.
Case: We built tables. For fun activities.
CAP: Disneyland trip Monday of Fall Break – 32 people. Beach trip coming up, different from concerts, which we’ve been doing a lot of.
West: Trick or Drink went really well. Secret informer said lots of people talking about it.
South: Saturday doing Halloween Baja. Trick or treating this Wednesday.
SFC: Haven’t met in 2 weeks. Prof tables went will. Going to have Ultimate Frisbee game with the profs this Wednesday.
North: We had a dorm meeting.
East: Dorm meeting the Thursday before Fall Break to get ready for Trick or Cheese, which went well.
Sontag: Doing well, furniture will be delivered on Monday.
Treasurer: We still have $21,000.
VP: Electronic voting committee going to meet with Aaron tomorrow. He has a huge brain, so we think he will do well.
Reggae Musical Funding Request
Pitzer Students: This Saturday is our annual Reggae Festival. We’ll have 5 professional bands. One woman flying in from Jamaica, who played with Bob Marley, very big. We have some bands from NorCal. Big names, but local. We are asking all the schools for $1000. CMC social chair’s given us $500.
Basically, it’s a 5C event. Last year we had about 400-500 people come, open to everyone. 10 kegs, going to have traditional Jamaican food. Integrating a step-it-up day of climate action.
So music will start at 3pm. From noon on, going to have booths/speakers about climate change. People selling art, jewelry, anything that people want to sell. Lots of kids come throughout the day.
Biggest event in the Fall. This Saturday, will have student bands starting around 1pm, and 4pm we’ll have professional bands.
Asking 5Cs, Motley, CLSA, OBSA, campus halls, campus life, Mead Hall, asking Feminist Coalition, PAC, SAC, new residence halls, and asking $1k from each of the schools.
Andrew: Why aren’t they asking Social?
Anu: Social usually funds Mudd parties.
Monica: Also fund 5C parties. Don’t remember that last year if we gave money.
Requesters: We got money last year.
Oksana: How much the event cost overall?
Estimated total: $7,850.
Leslie: How many Mudders attend?
Pitzer Students: Not sure exactly, feel like Mudders come because it’s really close.
There is also a ska band playing, Latin band, salsa, reggae, primarily reggae, but there are things other than reggae. And come for the free…food and refreshments. Whole thing is free.
Lindsay: We’ll let you know within in a week.
JSU Funding Request
Yaniv: 5C Jewish organization. Hoping to start speaker series: Jews & Science & Technology. First speaker is well known in bioethics, and hoping to start out with him. Hoping to have this on November 21 or 22.
Yaniv: Asking for $300 from each college, except for Pomona. This is for the one speaker. Might have more speakers coming in later; probably will have 2-3 speakers next semester. Going to be held on the Mudd campus.
Lindsay: Is $300 purely for the speaker?
Yaniv: Primarily for speaker, but there will be refreshments too.
Kenny: How many Mudders in JSU?
Yaniv: 2 on board regarding events. Little more than a handful, but not sure exactly.
Kenny: Do you have a feel for how many people will attend this series?
Yaniv: Haven’t done any publicity, so not sure.
Discussion about Pitzer Reggae Festival
Anu: Nothing shows up; don’t think we gave them money through ASHMC last year.
-- Can Social give them money? Is this something Social would give money for?
-- We can, but $1000 is a lot.
--Normally give $1000 for Kahutec, but more Mudders go to that, and they ask more from other campuses.
-- A lot more people go to that, and is significantly larger,.
--Haven’t really seen much advertisements for it, since it’s next Saturday.
--We can ask them to flyer more on our campus. And we could advertise it in the party e-mail.
--I’m thinking a number in between $500-$750.
--Isn’t it more appropriate if they go to social?
--Social meetings on Friday.
--Maybe we could tell them next time to go to Social, since they didn’t know whether it was okay to go to ASHMC.
--Anybody have an opinion?
--More like $500.
--CMC social already gave them $500, going to their senate to ask for $500 more.
--How much is usually given to a 5C party?
--Don’t know if Social has ever funded something like this.
--Scripps is having a 5C party.
--For Trick or Drink, Scripps gave us $500.
--But they have several bands going on, for this event. Feel it would be by far more expensive.
--But it’s nice that it’s free.
--And it is a good event.
--I think $500 is too low.
--What if we give them $600 and tell them to go to Social for more.
--Already told them to advertise more.
Motion to give them $600 with a note that they can’t use it for alcohol and a note that they should advertise more and go to Social for more money -- PASSED

JSU Discussion
--They have 9 Mudders, out of 165 total active from 5C.
--Gave them $25 during 5C budgeting.
--How much did they ask for?
--Our contribution came out to $200. Have a formula to figure out how much to give.
--But think it’s good since they’re hosting at Mudd.
--And it sounds like it’s not necessarily geared towards Jewish community.
--And the guy is talking about bioethics.
--I think $300 is good.

Lindsay: Sam couldn’t make it today. Update on NY times thing. I was concerned about the NY times left over in the Hoch.
Leslie: What do you mean by leftover?
Lindsay: No one picks them up. Only have them on weekdays, have 60 delivered. Asking because last year we talked about decreasing the amount of papers during the week and increasing the amount on weekends.
Oksana: Maybe we should shift the papers more to Galileo. Leslie: I also see people picking them up to get the crossword.
OKSANA IS ONE OF THEM
Lindsay: They have a number of the papers that are leftover, but I haven’t heard back from them yet.
