ASHMC Budget Update: Spring 2012
The ASHMC annual budget comes from student dues, $275/person, amounting to around $210,000. This money is used to fund clubs, organizations, and events. The projected budget for 2011-2012 is broken down in the following bar graph with some in-depth explanations below:
Clubs
ASHMC allocated $52,000 for clubs, both Mudd and 5C, at the end of the last school year. Throughout the year clubs can come to ASHMC to request funds.
Dorms
Each dorm receives $30/person for each year from the ASHMC Budget. The $30 for students living off-campus is currently divided evenly amongst the dorms. In the future, we are hoping to create off campus positions to handle the money allocated for off-campus students.
Yearbook
In addition to yearbook's allocation of $18,000 for the year, ASHMC voted to pay off yearbook's debt of $8,000. This debt accrued over the previous year due to late submissions to the publisher by the yearbook editor. Procedures are being put in place to ensure this doesn't happen again.
Pizza Fund
The pizza fund of $8,000 is to supplement Social's budget for pizza at parties.
DOS
DOS was allocated $7,000 to pay for Wednesday Nighter Donuts.
Other
The students-l moderator is paid $800/yr. The ASHMC executive assistant, who takes minutes at the meetings, is paid $400/yr. The yearbook editor is paid $1,000/yr. The look book for orientation was allocated $1,000. ASHMC also supported the Turf Dinner in the fall paying $1,280.
ASHMC Operational Budget
The ASHMC council budget is used to allocate money to new clubs and events throughout the year. Included in the 20,000 budget is the class presidents, treasurer, and ASHMC presidents discretionary funds of $400 each. $2,000 was set aside to pay our accountant. $400 was budgeted for magazines placed in Platt. $600 was allocated to snacks at the ASHMC meetings. The following is a list of events and clubs the council has supported with the budget:
Skate Club, Quidditch Club, Claremont Bible Fellowship, Women's Rugby, Cheese Club, Gonzo Unicycling Club, Raggae Fest, Ski Club, Awesome Things Competition, Frosh/Soph Games, Engineering World Health, DOS Noisy Minutes, Call to Men, MuddTV, ToolSHMC, Delta H, Photography Club, Jam Soc, LAC bikes, Psycho Taiko, and Yearbook.
Some of these are funded partially by the long term fund which is explained below.
Long Term Fund
The long term fund is funded from any unused money from the previous year. It is used to allocate funds to long term expenditures (anything lasting more than 2 years). Each year, around $20,000 is rolled over due to clubs not using all of their allocated funds and some events not asking for reimbursement. The long term fund had accrued to $56,000 at the beginning of this school year. The ASHMC council has allocated $16,000 of this to be used this year so far.
