Wine Enthusiasts

The Wine Enthusiasts is a student-led club at Harvey Mudd College which promotes and provides opportunities for education about wine in an intimate community environment. The club was established and active throughout the 1970's and revived by Hovannes Dermenchyan '08 in 2006. Hovannes' passion for the culture of wine has contributed to the refinement of our tastes. It has inspired alumni to maintain a network which continues to enjoy and share in their experiences of wine together.

The club hosts wine tastings throughout the year, which are filled with discussions about various aspects of viticulture including an introduction to wine, tasting, terroir, history, vintage, and wine-making processes. The club allows many students to indulge in a passion of theirs and expand their palettes in a relatively inexpensive manner.

The club's advisor is Emeritus Professor of Mathematics Dr. Robert L. Borelli. His enthusiasm and long history of experience with wine adds a unique perspective to the tastings.

Budget:
The Wine Enthusiasts club was allocated $950 for the '09-'10 school year.
