Some years ago, the late Don and Dorothy Strauss generously created and funded a summer internship program designed for HMC students interested in working with a community service organization. They envisioned HMC students having an in-depth (full-time, ten weeks) summer community service experience working in an internship of their own design without needing to work at a traditional summer job.
To that end, the Strauss family contributed a stipend that is equivalent to a summer research stipend ($3,000 for 10 weeks) as well as a partial on-campus housing stipend. Ultimately, the community organization receives the services of the intern for free and the student receives a valuable educational experience.
Chris Sundberg, associate dean of students/director of student activities, coordinates the selection and supervision of Strauss Interns. He is available via email at chris_sundberg@hmc.edu or by phone at (909) 621-8757 (his Platt office) or at (909) 607-1478 (the Linde Activity Center).
