The social life of a student at Harvey Mudd College may be as active as the student wants. With access to events sponsored at all of The Claremont Colleges, there is always something to do—concerts, speaker series, art exhibits, theater productions, sports, trips. The City of Claremont Recreation Class Program offers a variety of classes at reasonable prices that may be of interest to Harvey Mudd students. Classes range from fitness to theater and from art to technology.
On campus, a full range of activities, including student government, clubs and organizations, recreation, athletics and community service, are supported. Many of these programs are coordinated through the Dean of Students Office; the DOS Activities Team, which plans and organizes events for the entire campus; the LACtivities committee, which handles tournament and event planning for the Linde Activities Center; the Committee for Activities Planning, which organizes non-dorm-based events; and the Social Committee of ASHMC, Mudd's student government, which handles on-campus parties. These events are all scheduled through ASHMC, and a calendar of club and ASHMC events can be found here.
Chris Sundberg, associate dean of students/director of student activities (a.k.a. the Dean of Fun), oversees student activities, programs, events and recreational facilities. He is also the advisor for all campus activities committees, handles party registration and follow-up, sells discounted tickets to local attractions and approves posters and flyers for posting. Chris is available via email at chris_sundberg@hmc.edu or by phone at (909) 621-8757 (Platt office) or (909) 607-1479 (Linde Activities Center).
