Student teams from four dorms competed to create the most daring and delicious dish in the second annual Harvey Mudd College Copper Chef Competition, Nov. 17, 2010.
The teams were given one hour, a spread of raw meats, vegetables, and spices, and a "secret ingredient" (pomegranates) to incorporate in their culinary masterpieces. A panel of discerning judges, made up of faculty and staff, rated the dishes for taste, presentation and creativity.
Team West Dorm took first place with their dishes: filet mignon with pomegranate pasta, fresh asparagus, and sweet pomegranate-habanero fritters.
"It's a party in the mouth!" exclaimed one judge after sampling the winning fritters, which came together only minutes before the hour time limit expired.
New HMC Copper Chefs Divina Allan,'13, Gregory Fong ‘12, and Singer Ma '11 will soon be challenged in round two of the competition, Feb. 10, 2011.
