Nov 12, 2004 - Claremont, Calif. - Los Angeles-area high school student members of Young Black Scholars (YBS) will participate in Science and Technology Day at Harvey Mudd College on Saturday, November 13, from 9 a.m. to noon. Harvey Mudd College students will work with YBS students on a variety of science projects in the gymnasium at the college's Linde Activities Center, from 10:15 a.m. to noon. Prior to this, students will hear presentations about science and technology and the importance of higher education. Among the presenters will be Gabriel Kwofie, president of the National Society of Black Engineers; Michael Orrison, HMC assistant professor of mathematics; Peter Saeta, HMC associate professor of physics; and Peter Osgood, HMC director of admission. The Young Black Scholars program is dedicated to ensuring college preparation, leadership development, community responsibility and successful life planning. Since 1985, YBS has assisted students in realizing the pursuit of a college education. Ninety-eight percent of YBS graduates attend four-year colleges and universities and Young Black Scholars alumni number more than 18,000.
