Princeton Review Gives Faculty High Marks

Aug 22, 2007 - Claremont, Calif. - The Princeton Review has ranked the Harvey Mudd College faculty second among the nation’s premier colleges in the 2008 edition of its guidebook “The Best 366 Colleges.”

In two of the academic categories, “Professors Get High Marks” and “Professors Make Themselves Accessible,” HMC was ranked second. HMC was also ranked fifth in the category, “Students Never Stop Studying.” The rankings are the result of surveys sent to more than 120,000 students nationwide asking them to assess their institutions.

According to an anonymous comment provided by one of the HMC students, professors “choose to teach here because they want to focus on teaching, not on their research; as a result, everything is organized around making the classes as good as possible, not around getting that next grant dollar.”

The college was ranked 16th in two additional categories: “Gay Community Accepted” and “School Runs Like Butter.” Presumably because of the small size (a mere 33 acres) of its beautiful campus, the college was ranked 15th in the category “Campus is Tiny, Unsightly or Both.”

The guidebook is available at bookstores across the country, or at The Princeton Review website. More information is available at www.princetonreview.com
