Harvey Mudd College Named to the Princeton Review’s List of 50 “Best Value” Colleges for 2011

Feb 22, 2011 - Claremont, Calif. -

Harvey Mudd College has been named one of the nation's 50 "Best Value" private colleges and universities according to The Princeton Review, a well-known education services company. The Princeton Review Best Value Colleges for 2011 were reported Feb. 22 on the USA TODAY and Princeton Review websites. The list features 50 public and private colleges and universities.

In its profile of Harvey Mudd College on the USA TODAY website, the editors at The Princeton Review commend the school saying, “In order to ensure that all students receive a well-rounded education, students enrolled at Harvey Mudd are required to take a core component of humanities courses. Research opportunities are literally limitless. Engineering majors participate in ‘Clinic’ where they collaborate with other Mudders to satisfy the requests of an actual company.”

The article also speaks to student life and campus culture, “…what they [students] all have in common is a passion for science and technology. All are sleep-deprived and extremely busy--it  is a tech school after all--but they find ways to cut loose whether it’s through swordfights in the dorms, pranks at neighboring Caltech or parties on the other Consortium campuses.”

The Princeton Review selected institutions as the "best value" choices for 2011 based on surveys of administrators and students at 650 colleges and universities. The selection criteria covered more than 30 factors in three areas: academics, cost of attendance, and financial aid. Most of the data analyzed came from surveys conducted from fall 2009 through fall 2010. All cost and financial aid data came from fall 2010 surveys.

Princeton Review also named Harvey Mudd College a Best Western College. HMC’s Princeton Review rankings also include: Professors Get High Marks (#10) and Most Accessible Professors (#14).

Harvey Mudd College seeks to educate engineers, scientists and mathematicians, well versed in all of these areas and in the humanities and the social sciences so that they may assume leadership in their fields with a clear understanding of the impact of their work on society. Harvey Mudd College is located in Claremont, CA.
