Scholars Address Philosophical Ramifications of Physics

Feb 16, 2011 - Claremont, Calif. -

A grant funded by the National Science Foundation is allowing Vatche Sahakian, associate professor of physics, to share his work on non-local dynamics in physics and black hole physics in quantum gravity. He, and colleague Julia Sushtytska, assistant professor of philosophy at University of Redlands, are hosting lecture/discussions entitled "Physics at the Edge...of Philosophy." In a series of five lectures, they are discussing amazing recent discoveries in cosmology, astrophysics, string theory, particle physics and quantum physics--while reflecting upon their philosophical implications. Discussions are held in Galileo Hall, Wednesdays from 7 to 8 p.m.

Schedule

February 16: Black holes are neither black nor holes

February 23: Is, and Is Impossible not to Be

March 2: Your sense of certainty, off the quantum edge

March 9: What are philosophers and string theorists useful for?

March 23: Finally, the First Principles
