Feb 27, 2007 - Claremont, Calif. - In addition to a new graphical interface with an interactive photo slide show on the home page, the new site featues new information architecture and navigation. The new site was developed and will be maintained using Cascade Server content management system (CMS) software developed by Hannon Hill of Atlanta. The Chicago-based web communications firm mStoner assisted with the graphical and information architecture design, and selection and implementation of the CMS. Global Image of St. Louis assisted with the technical implementation. Cascade Server allows users to easily create and edit pages and add images. It also dynamically updates navigation when changes occur, eliminating broken links. The goal through the web redevelopment process was to better convey the quality and character of Harvey Mudd College, primarily through its most important asset: its people. A series of features about faculty, students, alumni and HMC supporters are distributed throughout the site. The architecture and design of the new site are the result of a lengthy process that involved a task force of faculty, students, alumni and staff, and research with prospective students. The task force's recommendations were presented to the President's Cabinet, where they were approved for implementation. The members of the HMC community who contributed to the process include: Kevin Mapp, Gia Leiva, Craig Adkins, Claire Connelly, Michelle Spromberg, Peter Osgood, Andy Davenport, Erik Spjut, Jacques Favreau '07, Hal Van Ryswyk, Anna Ahn, Peter Saeta, Jeff Groves, Kerry Karukstis, Guy Gerbick, Chris Marble, Sonya Zhang, Greg McCandless, Sally Rich Arroyo, Karen Taggart '77, Martin Hunt '08, Michael Orrison, Eric Ditwiler, Kapambwe Kangombe '07, Charlotte Genevier '08, Ran Libeskind-Hadas and Stephanie Graham. Because the college's website contained vast amounts of content (in excess of 50,000 pages), it was impossible to migrate all of the existing pages into the new format. Some of those pages are still scheduled for migration, while others will not be moved into the new site. The legacy website will remain available for users to located older content. Website visitors who cannot locate critical information about the college or its programs should contact Gia Leiva, web content editor.
