Starting July 1, two new chairs will head the physics and computer science departments at Harvey Mudd College.

Peter Saeta

Ran Libeskind-Hadas
Physics Professor Peter Saeta has been selected to succeed Professor John Townsend as chair of the Physics Department. Saeta has been a faculty member for 16 years.
“Peter has taught across the physics curriculum and understands how the physics curriculum and the College’s curriculum work together. He’s also dedicated to environmental issues,” said Dean of Faculty Bob Cave. “He’s well respected by his department and they are excited to have him as chair.”
Computer Science Professor Ran Libeskind-Hadas will succeed Professor Michael Erlinger as chair of the Computer Science Department. A faculty member for 18 years, Libeskind-Hadas served as interim department chair during the 2006-07 academic year. He most recently served as associate dean for diversity, research and experiential learning.
“Ran’s a great teacher and a leader in computer science research,” said Cave. “He’s recently moved into applications of CS to biology and helped develop a new curriculum in computational biology. I think he’ll lead the CS department to do great things.”
