Klawe to Serve on Global Conference Education Panel

Harvey Mudd College President Maria Klawe will serve as a panelist Wednesday, May 2 at the 2012 Milken Institute Global Conference in Los Angeles.

In its 15th year, the conference invites panelists to explore solutions to the world’s most pressing issues. Participants include CEOs from the world's top companies, senior foreign and U.S. government officials, global capital market leaders, and leaders in education, health care and philanthropy.

Klawe will participate on the “Colleges and Universities: Doing More With Less” panel.  She and fellow panelists—Andrew Benton, president of Pepperdine University, Stephen Friedman, president of Pace University, and Steven Knapp, president of George Washington University—will discuss a variety of challenges facing higher education. Topics they will explore include:

  • Whether current curricula is meeting the needs of 21st Century careers
  • How universities can continue to play a role in driving regional growth
  • How to provide the best education despite shrinking budgets
The panelists’ goal will be to examine, discuss and propose solutions for each challenge. Scheduled from 9:30 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. PDT, the session will be available for online viewing later that afternoon at the conference website.
