HMC Named One of 25 Cutting-Edge Schools

Aug 21, 2007 - Claremont, Calif. - Harvey Mudd College (HMC) has been named by Kaplan Publishing as one of 25 “cutting-edge schools with an eye to the future” in its 2008 college guidebook, “You Are Here: A Guide to Over 380 Colleges & Unlimited Paths to your Future.”

The book is targeted at high school sophomores, juniors and seniors, and the parents of those students, who are beginning to think about where to apply to college. It includes:

  • Admissions data and statistics on more than 380 colleges
  • Job fact sheets for each of the 50 “hottest” careers
  • Tips from professional organizations on entering specific career fields
  • An inside look at 25 “cutting-edge schools”

The book describes Harvey Mudd College in this way (excerpted from the full text): “With only 700 students, the enrollment is significantly smaller that most tech schools. This translates into a real hands-on education. With few exceptions, full-time faculty teach all classes, which often have less than 20 students. Students must devote one-third of their study to a common technical core, which includes four semesters of math, three of physics, two of chemistry, and one of computer science, as well as two electives.”

In describing the book, Kaplan Publishing says, “This is not a book that classifies the best party schools. This guide is for the student who needs help in deciding on a career track, and which school is best for them within that career track—the issues that really matter long term.”
