HMC Homework Hotline Open House Oct. 13

Oct 11, 2010 - Claremont, CA -

Local teachers, administrators, students and parents can get a behind-the-scenes look at Harvey Mudd College’s Homework Hotline during an open house to be held Wednesday, Oct. 13 from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. in the Platt Campus Center Green Room.

Principals and math and science teachers from the Pomona and Claremont school districts, as well as HMC faculty, staff and students are invited to attend to learn more about the Homework Hotline program and to meet the tutors and staff.

Open since Feb. 1, 2010, the Homework Hotline employs 24 HMC tutors, who are available Sunday through Thursday evenings from 6 to 10 p.m. Callers from local junior high and high schools speak to HMC's high-achieving math and science undergraduates, who are trained in over-the-phone tutoring and have access to district-adopted mathematics textbooks, as well as supplemental math resources.

Already very popular, the Homework Hotline is averaging 150 callers per month. The program’s mission is to help students reinforce math and science concepts, develop problem-solving skills and become independent learners.
