Students Host GoalFive Conference

Feb 25, 2008 - Claremont, Calif. - Harvey Mudd College students will host a conference March 28–29 for members of the community to discuss the fifth of six goals outlined in the college’s strategic vision statement, which was developed during several months of strategic planning in 2006-07.

The GoalFive Conference will feature speakers from labs and companies whose work aligns with HMC’s strategic vision’s fifth goal: “Global Engagement and Informed Contributions to Society.” The conference will be open to the public and members of The Claremont Colleges consortium. The conference has been planned entirely by students from The Claremont Colleges.

“HMC 2020: Envisioning the Future” is an ambitious outline of the college’s aspirations for the next decade, and beyond. The strategic vision, which was unveiled prior to President Maria Klawe’s inauguration in February 2006, revolves around six themes:

1. Innovation, Leadership, and Impact, Especially in Engineering, Science and Mathematics
2. Focus on Experiential and Interdisciplinary Learning
3. Unsurpassed Excellence and Diversity at All Levels
4. Nurturing and Developing the Whole Person
5. Global Engagement and Informed Contributions to Society
6. Improvement of Infrastructure and Resources to Support HMC’s Commitment to Excellence and Building Community
