HMC
Professor Lisette de Pillis to Teach at Summer Institute

Dec 01, 2004 - Claremont, Calif. -

Professor of Mathematics Lisette de Pillis has accepted an invitation to serve on the faculty of the Park City Mathematics Institute, a prestigious summer program sponsored by the Institute for Advanced Study at Princeton University and funded by the National Science Foundation, among others.

Professor de Pillis will teach in the Undergraduate Summer School program. The institute runs from June 26 to July 16, 2004, and will focus on mathematical biology.

The institute comprises several programs for teachers, undergraduate and graduate students. The groups meet simultaneously, pursuing both individual courses of study and a meaningful amount of interaction. The rich mathematical experience combined with interaction among all participants results in greatly increased understanding and awareness of the issues confronting mathematics and mathematics education today.

The fourth HMC faculty member to be invited to participate in the program in recent years, de Pillis was preceded by fellow Department of Mathematics faculty Andrew Bernoff, Francis Su, and Lesley Ward.
