Pyry Matikainen Outstanding Undergraduate

Pyry Matikainen '07 received Honorable Mention recognition in the Computing Research Association's (CRA) Outstanding Undergraduate Awards for 2007.

The CRA is an organization that serves as a primary advocate for computing research and education in North America. The CRA's Outstanding Undergraduate Award is among the most prestigious awards in the computing area given to an undergraduate and recognizes undergraduate students in North American universities who show outstanding research potential in an area of computing science.

Candidates for the award must be nominated by two faculty members and recommended by the chair of their college or university department. The CRA's Outstanding Undergraduate Award recipient is selected on the basis of demonstrated excellence of computing research ability, quality of research, academic record and service to the community. All nominees whose work is considered to be exemplary are recognized with Honorable Mention.

Matikainen participated in research at HMC for two consecutive summers. He worked with Professor of Computer Science Zachary Dodds in the summer of 2005 on problems related to computer vision and he worked with Professor of Computer Science Geoff Kuenning in the summer of 2006 on a project related to the use of computers in theater sets.
