Feb 14, 2005 - Claremont, Calif. - Professor of Mathematics Arthur Benjamin's book, Proofs that Really Count: The Art of Combinatorial Proof has just been named one of the Outstanding Academic Titles for 2005 by Choice, the principal review journal for academic libraries. The book is pubished by the Mathematical Association of America (MAA). Co-authored with Jennifer Quinn, the book is one of less than three percent of the more than 20,000 titles submitted to Choice to be given the award. Benjamin and Quinn also serve as co-editors of Math Horizons, an MAA journal for undergraduates with an interest in mathematics. They are at work on a second book, which will likely be subtitled, "Quintessential Combinatorial Proofs." Benjamin is on sabbatical at the University of New South Wales, Australia, during the spring semester 2005. Prior to travelling "Down Under," he performed his Mathemagics show off-Broadway at the SoHo Theatre in New York City. He was a guest performer at the theatre's Monday Night Magic, where a different group of magicians perform at the theatre each week.
