Writing a check is certainly the most common way gifts are made to HMC. For end-of-tax and fiscal-year-end gifts, we recommend using the U.S. Postal Service, as opposed to commercial carriers such as FedEx, particularly at the very last minute.

The U.S. Postal Service acts as an agent of the recipient. Thus, your gift date becomes the postmark date, which should be supported by an appropriate date on your check. A commercial carrier acts as an agent of the sender, thus the gift date is the date the parcel is received.
