Faculty Uses of the Resource Center
Professor Bill Alves:
Professor Alves uses the Faculty Resource Center extensively. The
Media 100 system
allows him to do video composition and editing for multiple projects.
He also uses the
CD burner (available for both Mac and
PC) to make copies of audio CDs,
and backup data.
Professor Gary Evans:
Professor Evans has used the Polaroid
35mm slide scanner to convert his
slides to a digital format for image processing and a more facilitated
transportation of the pictures. His students have used the
Media
100 system to edit both the audio and the visual components of a 15-minute
movie.
Professor Weiqing Gu:
Last summer, Professor Gu and her students used the Faculty Resource Center
to work on a course based on the idea
that a multimedia-oriented presentation of the material would help the
learning process. They used Macromedia Director
(versions 5 and 6) to
create most of the multimedia units. Too, they used the desktop
scanner to digitize photos, the Media 100 system
to digitize video,
and the CD burner (available for both Mac and
PC) to backup their Director files.
Professor Greg Lyzenga:
Professor Lyzenga collects large amounts of data from the seismology lab
and GPS measurements of various sites. Consequently, he needs a place to
store all this information. So, he uses the Faculty Resource Center's CD
burner (available for both Mac and
PC) to store this data. He also uses the
scanner
every once in a while.
