To connect to Charlie from a PC in your dorm room, simply open an Explorer
window (by opening My Computer or by opening an Internet Explorer browser
window) and type \\charlie.ac.hmc.edu. To reach your home directory,
type \\charlie.ac.hmc.edu\HMC_YOURYEAR\username\ where
YOURYEAR is your full graduation year (for example, 2005), and
username is your Charlie username, for example jsmith.
To connect to Charlie from windows 2000/xp in your dorm room:
- Go to control pannel and user accounts.
- Make sure that you have an account with the same username and password as your Charlie account.
- In the run portion of your start menu, type : \\charlie.ac.hmc.edu
To connect to Charlie from a Mac in your dorm room:
- The MicroSoft UAM (authentication management software) must be installed.
This software can be obtained here.
You must be logged into the mac as an administrator to install.
- Go to the Go menu in the top bar of the screen and click it.
- Select Connect to Server....
- In the Server Address text box, type: afp://charlie.ac.hmc.edu
(Another possibility is typing: smb://charlie.ac.hmc.edu.
However, just as a note, the smb protocol does not fully support all MAC file formats. For example the '.sea' format)
- Click Connect.
