This document covers how to change your password on one of the email
servers if it has expired.
If you want to change your password and it
has not expired, please refer to the documentation for changing your
password on Odin (Students and some faculty) or for changing your
password on Thuban or HMCADMIN (Most faculty and staff).
Information on changing your Charlie or Alice (Windows) password
is also available.
Some of the email servers at HMC require you to periodically change your
password for security reasons. If you receive an error message
telling you that your password has expired for a particular server, do
the following:
- Click on the Start-Button at the lower left corner of your screen,
and click on the "Run" option to open it.
- Enter "
cmd" (without the quotation marks) into the
"Open" text-box that appears .
- From the command-line menu that appears, type whichever of the
following pertains to your server (Do not type any quotation-marks):
- For HMCADMIN, type "
telnet hmcadm.admin.hmc.edu"
- For THUBAN, type "
telnet thuban.ac.hmc.edu"
- This shows a telnet to HMCAdmin:
- The computer will prompt you for your username. Enter this and
then press enter.
- The computer will prompt you for your old password. All password
information is entered "blindly" so that it does not display on the
screen, so don't be alarmed when you are typing and it appears that
nothing is happening. After carefully typing your password, press
enter.
- The screen will now prompt you for a new password. Once again,
the password will be entered in "blindly" so that you cannot see it.
None of your old passwords for the server will be allowed, so you will
need to have a new password ready. (See Password
Tips).
- You will be prompted to enter your new password again to verify
that you did not make an error when entering it the first time.
Your server password has now been updated!
