- Insert the VPN Client 3.5 CD
- Select Install Cisco VPN Client from the VPN client window.
- An IPSec Policy Agent may appear, if so, select "Yes" to continue.
- Select "Next" to continue with the install wizard.
- Select "Next" for the license agreement.
- Select "Next" for the default Destination folder.
- Select "Next" for the default Program folder.
- The program will now automatically start loading.
- A window will appear asking you to reboot the computer. Choose "NO I will restart my computer later."
- Remove the VPN client CD from the drive and manually restart your computer by selecting “Start>Shut Down"
- Now you will need to configure your login setup on the VPN Client.
- Start your VPN client by going to Start>Programs>Cisco system VPN client>VPN Dialer.
- Connection Entry: Click "New." Type "HMC" without quotes. Select Next.
- For host and group access information, contect the help desk at (909) 607-7777 (x77777 on campus).
- Click "Next" and then click "Finish." Drag the VPN Padlock icon onto your desktop.
- To establish a VPN connection, first connect to the Internet via your cable modem or DSL line. Then double-click the padlock icon. This will display the connection screen.
- After you click the Connect button, you will need to login to authenticate yourself.
- Administrative users will use their HMCADM login name and password to authenticate. Faculty and academic staff will use their Thuban login name and password.
- The connection confirmation dialog will appear next.
- Click the Continue button.
- There will now be a new icon in your system tray. (Note the padlock icon below.)
- To disconnect, right-click over the icon to display this menu and select Disconnect. There are a limited number of VPN connections available so please be sure to disconnect when you no longer need the VPN connection.
Using the VPN will allow you to send e-mail from your HMC e-mail server as well as permit access to data and programs that could normally only be accessed from on campus. [WARNING : DO NOT ATTEMPT accessing programs without benefit of either DSL or Cable connection!]
