Configuration
Before beginning setup, you should have obtained an IP address and
other information for Computing and Information Services. You can
request an IP address by filling out an IP request form sending email to ip-request@hmc.edu. Freshmen receive
their IP address information when they receive their new accounts from
CIS.
You should make sure you have your network card installed and that it
is working properly. You can check this by right clicking on your
computer icon on the desktop and choosing "Properties." Find your
network card under "Network adapters". Make sure Windows reports that
"This device is working properly."
- Begin network setup by clicking on "Start", "Settings" and then opening
the "Network and Dial Up Connections" folder.
- Double click on "Local Area Network" to open your network
properties window. Windows should have installed "Client for
Microsoft Networks," "File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft
Networks," and "TCP/IP."
- If these are not listed you will want to add them by clicking on "Install."

- Now find "TCP/IP" in the list of components and click on it.
- Click on "Properties." You will now have a window that looks like
the picture below.
- Click on "Use the following IP address."
- Click on "Use the following DNS server addresses."
- Fill in your IP address, Subnet mask, Default gateway, and DNS
server information that you received from CIS. If you are in one of
the dorms, all of your information should be the same as this picture,
except the IP address.
- Click on "OK" when you are done.

- You shouldn't need to change anything else.
- Click "OK" to save the information.
Everything else should be set up properly by default.
Click on "OK" to save the changes.
Windows will need to reboot to make the changes take effect.
If you are still having problems getting your computer to connect
to the network, you can email the CIS Help Desk at help-desk@hmc.edu
Key Access
To run many programs downloadable from CHARLIE you will need to be running
KeyAccess. KeyAccess is necessary to ensure that the number of users running a
particular application at one time does not exceed the number of
licenses that the school owns for that application. You can find
KeyAccess in the folder Dist-Software\PC\Key Client\ on CHARLIE.
To install KeyAccess on your computer click on KSClient.exe. A setup screen
should come up. Once you go through the setup and restart your computer
KeyAccess should run automatically each time you boot up. To
double check this open "Windows Explorer", find the Documents and
Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Startup\ folder on your hard
drive (usually on the C drive). A shortcut called KeyAccess should be inside
the folder.
Applications that can be installed on your computer that utilize KeyAccess
can be found in the Dist-Software\PC\ folder on CHARLIE.
