Before configuring your Macintosh to connect to the HMC network via Ethernet
you must first obtain an IP address for your Macintosh. To do so, fill out an
IP request or send e-mail
to
ip-request@hmc.edu. A form will be
sent to you automatically. Fill it out and send it back and an IP address
will be sent to you within 24 hours. Freshmen receive their IP address
and other information when they receive their new accounts during
Orientation.

First make sure that AppleTalk is enabled in the Chooser. The Chooser is
located in the Apple menu. Open the Chooser and make sure that the button
labeled "Active" is selected.

Next open the AppleTalk Control Panel, located in the Control Panels folder
in your System Folder. Make sure that "Ethernet" is selected in the pop-up
menu labeled "Connect via".

Next open the TCP/IP Control Panel. It is also located in the Control Panels
folder in your System Folder.
- Make sure that "Ethernet" is selected in the pop-up menu labeled "Connect
via:".
- Also make sure that "Manually" is selected in the pop-up menu labeled
"Configure:".
- Fill out the boxes with the numbers provided by CIS
- When you're done close the window.

If you want to be able to use Charlie, you must install Microsoft's User
Authentication Module. A copy of this can be found on our site by using the following link :

Finally, if you want to be able to run keyed software from the CIS file
server Charlie over the network you must copy an extension called KeyAccess
into the Extensions folder in your System folder. A copy of KeyAccess can
be found on Charlie in the folder Charlie.Mac:Communications Packages:KeyAccess
- Open the System Preferences Application. It is located in the Apple menu.
Go to the Network Preference Pane.
- Make sure the Ethernet is selected in the Show: pop-up menu.
- In the TCP/IP Panel, make sure the Configure: pop-up menu says Manually
- Fill out the boxes with the numbers provided by CIS.
- Switch to the AppleTalk tab and check the Enable AppleTalk box.
- Quit System Preferences.

If you want to be able to use Charlie, you must install Microsoft's User
