How to use the scanner with the PC:

Scanning an image in Photoshop

If you scan an image using Photoshop, you can edit the image to use in whatever document you would like. Your finished product can be any image format you choose.
  1. Open Photoshop by opening the Start button menu, selecting Programs, and going to Adobe and then Photoshop.
  2. From the File menu select Import . Twain 32.
  3. A window will appear that gives you the scanning options. You want to choose appropriate settings from the source and destination menus.
  4. Select an appropriate resolution. Remember a higher resolution will create a file that is very large and will be slow to scan. Make sure to check how large it tells you the file will be before you scan the image.
  5. You can use the Preview option to select what should be scanned, otherwise the entire scanner area will be scanned.
  6. Select Scan to scan your image.
  7. When it is done, your image will load in Photoshop. You can now edit your image.
  8. Save your file, and you are done.

Scanning a text document using TextBridge

  1. From the Start menu, select Programs . TextBridge Classic 2.0 to open TextBridge.
  2. Click on the button that looks like this to scan your document.
  3. In the window that appears, select Any Page. Select Scanner from Page Source. Click OK.
  4. In the new window select OCR for Source and Destination. Click on Scan to scan the document.
  5. When the document is finished being scanned, it will appear in TextBridge. Use the mouse to highlight the text you want saved into your new document.
  6. When you are finished highlighting, click on this button.
  7. You will have the option of selecting the destination file and what format you would like your document in. When you are finished you can open your document in a word processor to edit it.

Scanning a Transparent Document (slides, film, etc.)

You can scan transparent documents using the scanner in the Faculty Resource Center. The scanners in the miscellaneous computer lab will not scan transparent documents easily.
  1. Make sure the reflective document mat is NOT attached to the upper part of the scanning bed.
  2. Find the appropriate sized film guide for your transparent item. There are guides for 35 mm film, 35 mm slides, 4 by 5 inch film, and 120-size or 220-size film.
  3. Open Photoshop from the Start menu, under Programs and then Adobe.
  4. From the File menu select Import . Twain 32.
  5. A window will appear that gives you the scanning options. You want to choose TPU Neg or Pos for document source (Neg for negatives, Pos for positives).
  6. Select an appropriate resolution. Remember a higher resolution will create a file that is very large and will be slow to scan. Make sure to check how large it tells you the file will be before you scan the image.
  7. You can use the Preview option to select what should be scanned, otherwise the entire scanner area will be scanned.
  8. Select Scan to scan your image.
  9. When it is done, your image will load in Photoshop. You can now edit your image.

  2. From the File menu select Import . Twain Acquire.
  3. A window will appear that gives you the scanning options. Choose appropriate settings for the source and destination menus.
  4. Select an appropriate resolution. Remember a higher resolution will create a file that is very large and will be slow to scan. Make sure to check how large it tells you the file will be before you scan the image.
  5. You can use the Preview option to select what should be scanned, otherwise the entire scanner area will be scanned.
  6. Select Scan to scan your image.
  7. When it is done, your image will load in Photoshop. You can now edit your image.
  8. Save your file, and you are done.

Scanning a text document using TextBridge

Using TextBridge, you can scan the text of a document, and save that text into a word processor format so that you can edit it.
  1. Open TextBridge from the TextBridge folder on the hard drive.
  2. Select Scanner from the Input choices and Text from the Output selections in the window that appears.
  3. You can use the Preview and Verifier tools if you would like to preview the scan or verify it after it is done.
  4. Choose the destination file format and name. Click OK to continue.
  5. It will scan your document. When it is done it will ask if you want to add more pages. If you do, you can put in another page and then select Continue. If you are done click End.
  6. Quit TextBridge when you are finished. Now you can open your document in a word processor to edit it.
