Using the video projector in Parsons 144 and 146 (CIS Mac and PC labs)

To use the video projector in Parsons 146 with the Pentium on the instructor's desk, or in Parsons 144 with the Mac on the instructor's desk:
  1. Turn on the projector using the remote control.
  2. The image from the instructor's machine should automatically be projected onto the screen.
  3. When you're done just turn off the projector using the remote control.

Using the video projector with a computer in Galileo McAlister

You will need:

  1. Computer
  2. Video cable for connecting computer to the video projector
    Note: We have different cables for connecting Macintoshes and PC's to the video projector. Make sure you request the right one.

Instructions:

  1. Connect the computer to the wall connection. Remember to connect the cable before you turn on your computer. Movie (laptop) (~3 MB) Movie (PC on a cart) (~4 MB)
  2. Touch the touchscreen on the wall panel to turn it on. You will see a screen that says "Harvey Mudd College" on the touchscreen.
  3. Press the screen again to bring up the controls. Movie (~150 KB)
  4. Press the button that says "Projector Off" to turn on the Projector. Movie (~1 MB)
  5. The screen will tell you the projector is warming up.
  6. Wait until the projector turns on. This should take about 30 seconds. Movie (~1 MB)
  7. Press "Select Source."
  8. Press "Computer." Movie (~500 KB)
  9. Boot up your computer.
    Important: Remember to connect the video cable before turning on the computer. Otherwise the computer will not produce a video out signal.
  10. If you are using a Macintosh PowerBook make sure that Mirroring is turned on in the Powerbook Display Control Panel.

Using the video projector with a computer in Galileo Edwards or Pryne

You will need:

  1. Computer
  2. Video cable for connecting computer to the video projector
    Note: We have different cables for connecting Macintoshes and PC's to the video projector. Make sure you request the right one.

Instructions:

  1. Connect the computer to the wall connection. Remember to connect the cable before you turn on your computer. Movie (laptop) (~3 MB) Movie (PC on a cart) (~4 MB)
  2. Find the wall panel controls. Make sure that the system power is turned on (the light is on).
  3. Press the "Projector Power" button to turn on the projector. Movie (~700 KB)
  4. Wait for the projector to warm up and turn on. This should take about 30 seconds. Movie (~1 MB)
  5. Press the "Computer" button from the source selector buttons. Movie (~300 KB)
  6. Boot up your computer.
    Important: Remember to connect the video cable before turning on the computer. Otherwise the computer will not produce a video out signal.
  7. If you are using a Macintosh PowerBook make sure that Mirroring is turned on in the Powerbook Display Control Panel.

Using the video projector with a computer in Beckman Auditorium

You will need:

  1. Computer
  2. Video cable for connecting computer to the video projector
    Note: We have different cables for connecting Macintoshes and PC's to the video projector. Make sure you request the right one.

Instructions:

  1. Connect the computer to the wall connector.
  2. Make sure that the RGB button is pushed on the podium.
  3. Boot up your computer.
    Important: If you are using a Macintosh, you must connect the video cable before turning on the computer. Otherwise the Macintosh will not produce a video out signal.
  4. If you are using a Macintosh PowerBook make sure that Mirroring is turned on in the Powerbook Display Control Panel.

Using a VCR with the video projector in Galileo McAlister

All three Galileo Halls (Pryne, McAlister, and Edwards) have VCR players in the back rooms. A VCR player is also available in the front of Beckman Auditorium. If you would like to use the video projector to display a VCR tape please contact Michael Meyka or the Help Desk to gain admittance to the back room and to make sure that the projector is turned on.

Instructions:

  1. Put the VHS tape in the VCR player in the back room.
  2. Press the touchscreen control panel on the wall to turn on the touchscreen. Movie (~150 KB)
  3. Press the screen again to bring up the controls. Press the Projector Power button to turn on the projector. Movie (~1 MB)
  4. The screen will tell you that the projector is warming up. Wait for the projector to turn on. This should take about 30 seconds. Movie (~1.5 MB)
  5. Press "Select Source" on the touchscreen.
  6. Press "VCR" Movie (~800 KB)
  7. Press the Volume Control button.
  8. You will see a screen with two bars on it labelled "Program volume" and "Microphone volume." Slide your finger across the Program volume bar to raise or lower the volume. Movie (~600 KB)
  9. Go back to the main screen and press "VCR Controls".
  10. Press the button that says Power Off to turn on the VCR.
  11. Press Play. Movie (~750 KB)
  12. Important: Remember to turn off the projector when you are done. Movie (~700 KB)

Using a DVD player with the video projector in Galileo McAlister

You will need:

  • DVD player (available from A/V office)
  • Audio and video cables (available from A/V office)

Instructions

  1. Attach the DVD player's audio and video out connectors to the Audio and Video connectors in the wall using the audio and video cables. Movie (~2 MB)
  2. Put the DVD in the DVD player.
  3. Press the touchscreen control panel on the wall to turn on the touchscreen. Movie (~150 KB)
  4. Press the screen again to bring up the controls. Press the Projector Power button to turn on the projector. Movie (~1 MB)
  5. The screen will tell you that the projector is warming up. Wait for the projector to turn on. This should take about 30 seconds. Movie (~1 MB)
  6. Press "Select Source" on the touchscreen.
  7. Press "Aux" Movie (~500 KB)
  8. Press the Volume Control button.

Using a DVD player with the video projector in Galileo Edwards or Pryne

You will need:

  • DVD player (available from A/V office)
  • Audio and video cables (available from A/V office)

Instructions:

  1. Attach the DVD player's audio and video out connections to the Audio and Video connections on the wall using the audio and video cables. Movie (~4 MB)
  2. Put the DVD in the DVD player.
  3. Find the wall panel controls. Make sure that the system power is turned on (the light is on).
  4. Press the "Projector Power" button to turn on the projector. Movie (~700 KB)
  5. Wait for the projector to warm up and turn on. This should take about 30 seconds. Movie (~1.5 MB)
  6. Press the "Aux" button from the source selector buttons. Movie (~700 KB)
  7. Use the Program Volume controls to set the volume.
  8. Press "Play" on the DVD player.
  9. Important: Remember to turn off the projector when you are done. Movie (~150 KB)

Using a DVD player in Beckman Auditorium

You will need:

  1. Laser disc player.
  2. Audio cables.
  3. Video cable.

Instructions:

  1. Plug in the DVD player for power.
  2. Plug in one end of audio cables into audio out jacks in the DVD player (L and R jacks). Plug in the other end of the cables into the wall socket labeled AUX audio in (L and R).
  3. Plug in one end of video cable into video out jack in the DVD player. Then plug in the other end into the wall socket labeled AUX video in.
  4. Press "Power" on the remote control to turn on the projector.
  5. Wait for it to warm up.
  6. Press "Aux" on the remote control.
  7. Turn on the DVD player.
  8. Put in the DVD and press play.
